Update 3rd ozurdex implant

Hi guys. Had my third implant Tuesday. Different Dr again so was a bit nervous. She seemed a bit awkward putting the clamp in but I've had no problems after. Just watery and achy for the first day and a bit of a blood spot but not too bad.

Sight seems a bit improved already which is good as before inj I couldn't see to use giant screen computer at work. Due to work this weekend so hopefully will be ok.

Review 9 th May.

That sounds like good news eyesight, especially the improvement in sight so quickly. I take my hat off to you, working with such sight. I use the very large screen for low vision on my MacBook but I am so slow and I do make mistakes!! Keep up the good work and long may it last for you. x x x

Hi eyesright. It sounds promising. Is there a limitation on often this can be repeated?

in reply to

I think so.....that's the difficult conversation for next review.......

I don’t think there is any limitation on numbers of injections, I had 79 before moving to try Ozurdex but I suspect that I will return to Lucentis.

I know of 2 people who have had over 125 injections and who still retain good vision.

in reply to

Hi Rennatk, I was asking eyesright about any limits to the "implants", not the ordinary injections.

in reply to

Sorry, my mistake! So far as I am aware the implants can be given as long as they are tolerated.

Hi Rennatk, my consultant put a comment on the record of my last review saying it had been 'agreed to permanently stop injections'. By which I think he's saying I can't go back to Lucentis or eyelea if I run out of implants. He was cagey about my treatment plan when I asked what if this implant doesn't work. I shall fight if I have to. Of course, he might just have written the letter badly lol. I shall find out next month.

in reply to

Hi eyesright. My condition is different to yours so the same might not apply but I am assured that if the implant is unsuitable/ineffective I can return to Lucentis. Given that my IOP jumped from 14 to 26 six weeks after the first implant I may well opt to do that.

I find the remarks made by my retinologist, good as he is, tend to vary and can leave me mystified. One minute a treatment can be “on” the next it is “off”. To some extent that might be due to rapidly changing conditions in my eye but, it is confusing.

Recently, I had scans at a different hospital and I realised that my forwarded notes gave an entirely wrong date for a previous major eye op!

We need to keep our wits about us and argue for the treatment we are comfortable with. It does however, mean that we have to learn a fair bit about our individual condition to secure credibility.

I had my first ozurdex eye implant this week. What worries me now are the dark, threadlike filaments I see in my vision and my eyesight is much worse due to a gauze-like film so I have even less clarity now than prior to the injection. Does the dexamethasone leave a residue in the eye like this? If so, how long before it dissolves? I know I will have to wait for the bleeding and so forth to clear up over time but I can't help worrying.

in reply to eyeprotect

Hi eyeprotect, I'm not aware of any gauzelike film, but I have got the black threads ( mine are like eyelashes at the top of my eye. Only got them with 3 rd implant). I do see a black rod which I believe is the implant and it slowly disappears over weeks.

If I were you I would ring your clinic and ask about the gauzelike shading.

Good luck going forward x
