Miopic cnv
Hi - yes I do too. I'm 45 & have had 2 lots of 3 injections over the last 4 years losing some central vision in one eye (the other eye only has some peripheral vision after bleeds before treatment was available).
It's pretty rubbish, isn't it? I've no practical advice to share, sorry, just wanted to say hello.
It is so difficult - the doctors & opticians can measure our sight in one environment in a consulting room with bright light, but they don't "know" how changes in our environment (lighting, clutter etc.) can have such a huge effect, as they can't see through our eyes.
For me (I'm a -24/25 so ridiculously myopic) I can say I'm amazed at how good my peripheral vision has become in my worst eye, but this has developed over many, many years. I won't ever be able to read more than 2 or 3 words in huge print with that eye, but that is something I couldn't do before.
How long ago did you have your injections & are both eyes affected or just the one?
The Macular Society do have a telephone helpline so you could talk to a real person who will "get" what you are talking about (as do the RNIB & Action for Blind People both of which helplines I have used). They can also give you better advice than I can as I'm not qualified, just another fellow sufferer.
If you don't feel you're getting the service from your doctor then you may consider challenging them about it - this isn't easy but time can make such a difference to those of us with these conditions.
Can you get advice from your HR department at work about your ability to do your job - or from your union if you're in one? I'm very lucky in that my employer (LEA) was very helpful & changed some of the lighting in my room which has made a huge difference to my working environment.
Best of luck - there is usually someone around on these forums for when you want to talk, but I'm only around every few days or so, so my replies may take a while.
Hi there,
I've recently been diagnosed with myopic macular degeneration - in both eyes - although the vision is blurry in the right eye only for the moment. I've had my first lucentis injection and will be getting the second one next week. It's hard to know what to expect from the treatment, however, new bleeds should be brought under control fairly easily.
I had a really good chat with my Retinal specialist last week and he went through the scans and the treatment plan. My advice would be to ask questions and to approach the Macular Society - a fantastic resource. If you're receiving injections - focus on that. I am at least happy that there is some treatment for this condition and therefore some hope of retaining useful vision.
I have myopic cnv caused by.myopic M.D in one eye and floters in my good eye Well i say good eye as i am badley short sighted in both eyes .i work in a small factory its Well lit and the machines are CNC .the boss is worried about sfet he keep s watching me .Had 4 injections lasto one in march and being monitord every six weeks .good luck åll
If you ever need to talk about it Caddy45 someone will be here. Also, the Macular society are excellent if you haven't chatted to them before - I'd thoroughly recommend it. If work is a concern there's plenty of support out there too - don't make any rash decisions about work! Again, the society can help you there.
All the best...
