Been diagnosed with Lupus for over 20 years, am in my 41st year now. Plodded on as best I could until 2002 as I had spondylilothesis, with was repaired with a spinal fusion in Sept 2002. Best thing I ever had done, gave me a new lease of life.
3 years after the operation I started running just to see what I could do again after been active up until my 20's.
i completed my first half marathon in 2006 and have done one every year since, just to prove that I can and to keep active.
Over the years the raynauds has got worse, therefore increased medication, which in turn has given me other nasty side effects, migranes, blackouts. Took two years to fnd the correct medication to prevent the migranes and blackouts, whilst still being able to take the raynauds meds.
Unfortunately for me I seem to have reactions to lots of the medications out there.
To start 2013 I have now found out I have osteoarthritis in my hands and feet - unable to take anything other than painkillers and anti inflams.
My Rheumy, thankfully has told me that I have not to stop running under any circumstances and this will allow the disease to progress faster. As much as it will hurt, dont stop.
I have been out today for a walk on the canal for 90 mins, lovely walk with fab company, and all I could think about towards the end was 'when can I take my next painkiller'
This is what it is going to be for the remainder of my time, and yes I am sad and feel pretty crap at the moment, mainly as I have to go back to work on monday and let them know the situation. My employers occ health unit are fantastic however my colleagues look at me and think there is nothing wrong with them.
However, there is light at the end of the tunnel and I will get there, I have entered for my usual half marathon again so that will give me something to aim for. If I cant run it all this year I will get to the end and carry on, maybe I will have to do shorter runs, but I am determined to adapt to this and not let it beat me.
Happy New Year to you all, just had to get it off my chest
xx
