UV Light and filter film

Can anyone recommend a good filter film for my windows? I have looked online and am now confused by the variety on sale. I work from home and my desk is in the window. I face the window when working and the window is south facing. I wear hats, sunglasses and sunscreen outside, but until recently it had not occurred to me that light coming through the windows could be causing flares. In truth, my skin sensitivity is not very bothersome. it comes and goes and does not seem to be exclusively triggered by sun. I don't tend to get a typical malar rash, but my face does frequently become very red with a sun burned feeling for no reason. However, I think it would probably be a good thing to minimise the UV rays coming through my windows since I work in the window all day winter and summer. I'd really appreciate any recommendations.

Hi Ophelia 🤗Yes I have UV film on my south facing living room window and kitchen window. It's very effective at blocking harmful rays.

I got mine from a company called easylife which is one of those that sells handy gadgets. I got a roll of it 122x200 cms which we fitted ourselves..it cost just under £20.

Partially closing curtains helps too. If your working on computer dimming the screen often helps with light sensitivity.🌈😽😽xx

Might I ask if you have modern windows? I am beginning to struggle with the UV already but our windows are old and materials I have looked at so far won't work - here's hoping you have found the solution. It is such a pain isn't it. I've ended up with a malar rash each evening and very dry eyes even thought been wearing my sunscreen and F50 hat. x

I'm in council property so crappy double glazing maybe? 😹However I think it might work for you. It comes on a roll which u cut to size n then fit it by taking the backing off n smoothing it flat on the window pane.

Totally with you there on feeling the UV getting stronger. I've just done a cool mask for my dry itchy eyes.

The UV film definitely helps though..n if it doesn't do the trick with you you're not much out of pocket really so I'd say go for it. U can still see colours in the garden..it's just like looking through some mild sunglasses. The other added bonus is that it heats up so in winter sunny windows feel quite warm.🌈😽😽xx

Thank you so much for posting the photos - it is very kind of you. It does look very natural. Another beautiful morning, I have started using eye drops like they're going out of fashion! Ho hum.x

Additionally, your glass might be very thin. We have some original glass, very fine. I have shutters on one window and the others thick curtains. I think I am resolved just to live in the dark a little and move around avoiding the brightest light. Feel very much like a vampire. Might I ask if you get malar rashes most nights in this weather? I have a suspicion that my photosensitivity is intensifying. I do all the right things - F50, F50 hat, UV parasol etc etc. x

Hi, I realise this is not a glass film but have you considered the fine, see through roller blinds? They aren’t expensive, easy to put up and diffuse the sun massively. Just a thought.

Thanks. I'll definitely give it some consideration. It's hard to know how to deal with this issue

I have RA not Lupus…& I don’t suffer from light sensitivity…..but have you investigated one way roller blinds? You can see out & light does get through, but outside it looks like a solid window covering….I have them for security & honestly don’t know if they really block UV rays.

I can sit in front of a window & when the sun is very brightI can see well enough to read & write.

Might be worth asking some of the companies who sell them.

Not what you're looking for?
