Yes!!! I have insurance with my bank which is free, but informed them of my condition. They right away went into a detailed list of medications and other potential linked ilnesses I may have been diagnosed with.

I have renal impairment amonst other things so they charged me £223 alot of money I know but certainly peace of mind.

Hi Faye

I went on a caribbean cruise earlier this year and paid an extra £100 with Virgin travel insurance. I've also used Axa before. It is a lot of extra money, but worth it for the peace of mind. We were going to book a med cruise which we would have been on right now but I couldn't get holidays from work as it was a busy time. Well, I've still had the time off work but on sick as I've had a flare up - the worst I've had for a while too - I can't imagine having to suffer this on a ship and for the sake of £100 where would I have been?!!

Bite the bullet and pay the extra - it could well be worth it :)

I've always paid extra to cover my Lupus, Diabetes, asthma, but now I've been diagnosed with interstitial lung diease due to my Lupus, most Insurance companies wont even give me a quote. For the past 2 years I've opted to still pay extra as previous, but ive had to opt for an insurance that allows you to cover disclosed ilnesses but just doesn't cover undisclosed illnesses,Anyone else have this problem or illness?

Hi Faye,

Obtaining a European Health Insurance Card, will cover you for any medical issues in the European Hospitals and its free, just be careful of the website you choose as some charge for this card.

nhs.uk/aboutNHSChoices.aspx

I have just used my card in the hospital in spain, I wasn't charged anything.

Good Luck,

Fiona

It is still advisable to have travel insurance. If you became so ill that you had to be flown home, that would not be paid for by the European Hospitals. The costs of such a flight home could be astronomical. Also, the Health Insurance Card will only cover care in EU member states, not everywhere.
