Hi,I am sorry I may not be very much help, but someone will come along soon who may be more help,my daughters 26 has 3 year old twins and was told that the coil would be the best thing for her,I can't remember whether is is the one that has no hormones in it,I think there are 2, my daughter has the one without the hormones as she flares something terrible with the contraceptive pills and implants.

Maybe have a chat with your g.p or practice nurse if you prefer a female.

Hope this helps a little , Sandy

I'm surprised your doctor has prescribed the pill. My consultant told me that the oestrogen contraceptions are linked to flares in Lupus. I had a copper coil fitted 4 weeks ago. I've had a few problems with bleeding and feel that my current Lupus flare is making the 'settling in' process of the coil feel worse and more of an ordeal. I've still not decided if it suits me or not but it's the only alternative I've found that doesn't involve hormones.

My lupus is oestrogen sensitive so no combined pill for me, pill injection every 12wks I got pregnant (& miscarried), copper coil caused lots of pain, many miscarriages& eventually afrer 2yrs was removed because of infection caused by the coil itself (vrare so im told), implants I was told were out of the question - due to likelyhood of lupus causing the body to reject them... so here I am merina coil (hormone one - progesterone) no problems so far, some bleeding but not much. My son was concieve while taking the mini pill ( plus miscarried pregnancies). I dont have a partner any more, a partner ill is too much to cope with Im told ( try it from my side of the fence WIMP) so merina coil isnt on trial, as it were. Im sure not every lupies body rejects contraceptives but theres my experience!

Hi, Im on a mini pill and dont seem to have any reactions from it. (Cerrazette). My GP has suggested the coil but Im too much of a wimp, so Ill stick to the one I know!

I used the pill without oestrogen in it- think it was the mini pill, took it everyday (including period days) think I coped ok with it- although, now feel better not taking it! xx
