Hi, I dont think it matters. I have been taking 400mg,1ea 2x a day. Diffrent times. I have a tough time as it is, so sometimes I forget to take all the meds i am on time, and so forth. So I have taken both pills a @ same time and havent had any issues. But always call you Dr's, P.A, and ask them.

Good luck

Hi Larissa,,You are best to split your Hydroxy into two doses.I take one the morning and the other about 4pmish.Until you get used to taking Hydroxy,,in the early days it can upset your stomach,,hence the saying,,Don't sneeze,,as alot of us say..lol,,sorry but true. Also i know alot of the lupies also have issues with the drug interfering with sleep if taken too late in the day,,some say they think keeps them awake.I have always split my doses,,it is a strong med and think it easier on the stomach if the doses are separated....hey pop into our group,,we are here at Facebook,,we are Lupus is real!!!You be made very welcome and get loads of instant help and advice.I hope you are doing well on Hydroxy and it does take 4 to 6 months to get the real benefits fron the med.

hi there larissa..

i take both tablets in the morning, as i do have disturd sleep patterns, but that could be due to other medications. if your unsure you can have a conference call with your own doctor, who could advise you as well

stay well

Hi Larissa. My doc didn't tell me either, but the bottle reads to take one tablet twice daily. I also eat something first before taking it to minimize any stomach discomfort. I take one 200 mg. pill after breakfast and one in the evening after having something to eat. Take care.

I take 2x200mgs in the mornings, my lupus doc said that would be ok even though it says 1 twice a day on the box. Havent had any ill effects at all and they've helped me a lot. We're all different and its a bit of trial and error as to what suits you best. Any doubts talk to your doctor :)

I am also on 400mg a day. I have always taken them as 200mg in the morning and and 200mg in the evening after I have eaten. At the start I took only 200mg for about 2 months then this was increased to the 400mg daily. I have had no problems. You could always go into your pharmacist and ask them if you don't feel like a trip to the drs. I have found them to be very informative about drugs and side effects. Take care.

Hi Larissa. You should divide the dose in order to reduce the risk of side effects the main one being stomach problems. So 200mg at breakfast and 200mg with evening meal.

Oh no you won't believe it: I am on 400md daily since June one in am & one in pm ....and just this morning I took 2 tabs together bumpy mistake (silly me). The plaquenil leaflet instructs to RUSH to dr or A&E if you do this....so I phoned surgery: gp said it's probably ok as not a full double dose 800mg, just 400 mg in one go....BUT am to have blood tests for liver kidney function early this coming week.....we had a good laugh: the instructions of ourselves are scary warning you of convulsions, heart attacks etc.....so gp says: ring surgey agin if anything happens....I got off the phone and remembered I'd briefly noticed but not actually read this thread recently: rushed to see again what you'd all said! I guess I'm ok, but feel even more ok for having read your posts!

Intresting question. I was prescribed Plaquenil and then Hydroxy when i moved area and hence GP. I used to take my meds in the morning as i too had problems with sleep at night when i was getting used to this kind of medication.

sometimes its a little trial and error but getting advice from your GP or Rhumy is always the best thing to do.

Hi! I've been taking Hydroxyurea for about 4 years now. I take it at night with a large glass of water. Then in the morning I take another large glass of water. If your Hydroxyurea is like mine, it is a capsule. You should not open this up, as it says caretakers should not touch this med. Therefore, I never touch it myself. So, I would think opening it up would be a mistake. When I take it, I pour one capsule into the bottle cap and then take it into my mouth from the bottle cap. I hope this helps you! Wishing you and all on here all the best! Pollywog
