I really suffer badly from photosensitivity, wearing dark glasses all day, but these 'new' super bright headlights are causing me real problems driving, so much so that I'm dreading driving at night. Does anyone else have problems with these?

Photosensitivity & New Ultra Bright Headlights?
I have had real problems with light over the last few years and have given up driving. May I ask do you know exactly what causes this problem? Has your ophthalmologist/ eye specialist been able to tell you?
Hi Jude65
Sadly I have never seen an eye specialist.....the rheumatologist I see has just said its 'part of my lupus symptom set' as I suffer really badly from UV sensitivity - and that I need to 'adjust my lifestyle' - how many times have I heard that!
I'm just concerned that car manufacturers are selling cars with headlights so powerful that they effectively blind everyone else on the road....or is it just me???
I have problems with my eyes, must say I have not tried dark glasses, just wear my varifocals, My problems are at night or half light, everything very blurred etc. Am waiting to see Opthalmologist at the hospital, referred by my Rheumy. Will post what he says when I see him on the 14th.
I know exactly what you mean, I can't drive at night as when down country roads or unlit roads I literally go blind when someone with those halogen bulbs goes past me. Your the first person that seams to understand, all my friend n family just say do t look at the headlights, but I don't I look at the kerb but I absolutely can't see anything. Very scary! My Optitions says its cos I have fair skin and blue eyes and isn't too concerned. So your not alone
Moontreegoddess - I know exactly what you mean! My family told me the same, and it doesn't matter whether the car's coming towards me or behind me they still dazzle me into blindness.
i have had this problem for a long time. I thought they where just very bright to everyone else too. I even find it difficult to look at my laptop because of its bright light so I put it on the lowest setting there is to be able to look at it.
I am exactly the same! I have got to the point where I avoid driving at night if I possibly can as I feel these lights are actually dangerous. I have seen a (rather rude!) opthalmologist at my local hospital who couldn't find anything wrong with my eyes and just dismissed my problems. I wear tinted glasses out of choice - I never seem to get anywhere with doctors at the moment - although I know I am anti-Ro antibody positive which I believe can be associated with photosensitivity problems. I don't know why car manufacturers are allowed to get away with these lights - I find the flashing lights on some bicycles a problem too and would imagine people with epilepsy may also have difficulties with this light issue. Not sure what we ordinary folks can do to get anything changed.
I agree with all the above halogen lights are to bright, but I find the normal head lights and street lights are like a star burst and sometimes I can't drive
I have had this problem for years. Long before I was diagnosed. Its awful and these new lights just make it worse.x
