Methotrexate

Hello, Aurali. Yes, I have a raised red lumpy sore on both legs where I inject mtx. I don’t think mtx is working for me any more despite adding a daily half tablet of mepacrine since December. My skin is worse now than it’s been for years and I’m desperately waiting for my dermie appointment in two weeks time!
Hi Barbara, that's interesting to know it's not just me! I did speak to the specialist nurse who said to try it on my tummy which I have done this week so see if it does the same.I've only been on the injections for 4 weeks as I had awful nausea on the tablets, much better on injections. Also take 200 hydroxychloroquine 5 days per week.
Let me know how you get on with your rheumy ....be interesting to see what they say about inflammation at the injection site and also whether they think you should try something else.
Take care xx
Hi, I had this problem to start with.
I found that pushing the injector down hard on taut skin and keeping it there for 20 seconds, instead of the 5 or 10 they tell you, stops the problem.
I think if it's not deep enough or left long enough then some of the mtx liquid settles close to the skin surface and causes the painful itchiness. It makes you wonder what it does further into your skin!
I hope this helps as I know how horrible it can be.
