More good news

Someone else may have already posted this - and if so I apologise for being repetitive. But this is very good news.

World-first therapy using donor cells sends autoimmune diseases into remission.

Three people with severe autoimmune diseases are in remission after being treated with bioengineered and CRISPR-modified immune cells called chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells. They are the first to be treated with engineered immune cells from donors. The advance could represent the first step towards mass production of CAR T therapies for conditions such as lupus and multiple sclerosis. The ongoing success and safety of the therapy need to be demonstrated in more people before it can be considered for wider use, but it “could prove paradigm shifting”, says immunologist Daniel Baker.

I have copied the summary - in case some people can't access the full article. I think this is the link:

The thing is it is only 3 and it is not done on a wide and broad case scenario which is very difficult to tell if the case actually work or not . Also it is China 😳🤔 how much it is true. And from that country I am not too sure I really want to trust when it comes to medical.. Most trials over in the UK or Europe are done on a wide and broader cases . So that they can see what work for what illness and so on. They need more subjects and more trials if they really want to pass that stem cell drug.

Yes they do need more trial obviously - but I am going to be positive about it anyway. Having lived with this ridiculous illness for more than twenty years now - I will clutch at any straw, even if a treatment that works is found too late to help me, it would be marvellous to think that other people don't have to go through it.

Also I am not sure what you mean about China.

There are up to 30 trials ongoing the YSA right now. See this to start: lupus.org/resources/CAR-cel...

Thanks for posting this. It is good to hear about some signs of progress.

I understand your enthusiasm as I did when I read about one patient who went through this therapy with the same successful remission in California, I think it was at Berkeley University. I got so excited and showed the article to my Rheumy and discussed it with him during the consultation. He told me each individual requires their own specific therapy because it is so complex and something NHS cannot roll out as we all have to have our own done individually. So I think this is the case that applies only if you win a lottery of some millions to spend on your case specifically. But we can certainly keep our hope and prayer going! I will join you. 😂

some more info: The new, industry-funded clinical trial with Cabaletta Bio is evaluating CABA-201, an investigational therapy in patients with either SLE or LN who have active disease. UC Davis Health is one of just nine health care institutions worldwide and the only hospital in the Western United States to participate in the clinical trial.health.ucdavis.edu/news/hea...

i found this where a hospital in Israel is currently offering this therapy. In the US they are still trialing it. I think a lot of trials are going on in China.

I thought this advertisement gave a good description of CAR T therapy which has been used in the USA since about 2017 for a variety of blood cancers such as Lumohoma:

CAR T Therapy:

A New Lupus Treatment

Sheba Medical Center is leading the charge in a revolutionary new treatment for lupus using CAR T therapy. This innovative approach offers a potential breakthrough by targeting the root cause of the disease – an overactive immune system. Here’s how it works:

Doctors extract a patient’s T-cells.

These T-cells are genetically modified in a lab to recognize and attack the specific immune lymphocytes causing lupus.

The engineered T-cells are reintroduced back into the patient, where they can fight the disease directly.

This personalized therapy offers new hope for patients who haven’t found lasting relief with traditional treatments for lupus.

I’ve read that CAR T therapy (In USA?) costs anywhere from $400K to $1M! I believe cost is basically they remove the cells from you body and genetically engineer them to attack all the T cells throughout your body and then your body repopulates the immune cells and the new cells no longer have autoimmunity.

I have read that some companies are trial to make a standardized CAR T therapy and this would lower the costs tremendously.
