I saw a dermatologist before I got my lupus diagnosis. He didn't realise I had lupus and he prescribed a normal redness cream for my face: Leti SR serum. It's for "facial erythema due to erythrosis, couperose and/or Rosacea Subtype 1". It doesn't seem to make any difference to the redness. I can't see the dermatologist again until December. Do you think it will do any harm to keep using it until then?

Could non-lupus cream make lupus worse?
It's worth engaging with your GP, in the interim, to ascertain whether the current cream will worsen skin-related lupus. The GP would have access to the same information as the Dermatologist. Furthermore, they can email them for further guidance as well.
You can also, if you have a good local pharmacist, enquire if the cream is suitable for individuals that have discoid lupus? Try and keep the question you ask the pharmacist, general as possible because they will not have access to your GP notes.
A third option is to make contact with the Dermatologist secretary at the hospital, and ask them the question. To receive an answer may or may not take a while but it could possibly trigger an earlier appointment than December, perhaps.
Hope you get it sorted, and hope the above helps. Try not to worry.
I have Lupus and get a rash across my face. Before I was diagnosed with Lupus by a rheumatologist a dermatologist that I saw thought it might be Rosacea and recommended a prescription that I declined. It would do nothing for a Lupus rash BTW. For situations where the redness really bothered me I went to a department store makeup specialist and she showed me how various makeup products primarily with a green tinge would camouflage the redness. Since my diagnosis I see both a dermatologist and a rheumatologist and there is no specific treatment for the rash other than controlling my illness as much as possible. I still get the rash despite treatment.
