Good evening everyone. I broke my wrist, distal radius fracture. I knew that something wasn't right when the cast was on but was assured that everything was going well with the fracture. 9 weeks later when cast was taken off my hand and arm had developed CRPS (chronic regional pain syndrome). I was told that due to the Lupus there was a possibility of this happening. Referred to pain management team and started some treatment. Unfortunately this hasn't helped so I am waiting for occupational therapist to see me. Have to wait another 8 weeks. I am starting a trial of patches, waiting for the appointment. Long story short this could have started whilst in the cast in October last year. Now stage 3. Wondering if anyone has or recovered from this. Unable to use my arm as this condition causes atrophy and therefore can't move my wrist or fingers as they are like a block of wood. Thank you x

Hi Littleseed, I haven’t had this type of fracture before, but I’ve had other problems that have mimicked CRPS. Sorry to hear about the delays in your treatment and your general pain and atrophy. Are the patches helping at all? Let us know how you get on with the OT, I will be interested to hear what they have to say, and whether they can give you any exercises that will help. Hang in there 🌻🌈
Hi MusicalFurbaby. Thank you for your reply. I am waiting for appointment for patches as it's a trial treatment. 8 weeks for OT appointment as they are very busy 😔. The physio who is really good started the desensitizing treatment which is silk fabric being rubbed on the hand but could not tolerate the feeling. It's a very long and complicated treatment. As it's stage 3 it may or may not get any improvement, but not thinking about that at the moment. Trying to stay positive wouldn't wish this on anyone. Can't use my hand at all. Just pleased I'm left handed. Thank you again for your reply. 🤗xx
Oh what a relief that it’s not on your dominant hand! Poor you, it sounds like everything is very sensitive atm. Treatment may still be worth trying; even if it doesn’t work, you can know that at least you tried it. I hope your OT and patches appts roll around quickly. Do they have a cancellation list? That can sometimes be a way to get in sooner—assuming someone else cancels, of course!
