Bleeding issue...

Hi, Diagnosed with lupus profundus 10 years or more now but in recent visits to the doc to check bloods etc, I end up bleeding a lot. Doc took blood then put pressure using cotton wool then turned to get a plaster and blood was pouring down my arm and onto the floor. Had to stay for 10 minutes to make sure it stopped. Again at the hospital got an injection and pressure applied, went to get a plaster, blood running down my arm...both times I was left heavily bruised as well . 😐

that sounds terrible. What meds are you on? I bleed a lot, but not like you said. I always put it down to being a red head, but I am on Prednisolone now and bleed much more and bruise and have blood blisters very easily. I have lupus. Hope you get it sorted soon. Has your GP suggested anything? X

It might be worth mentioning to your doctor, he might check your clotting factors?

sounds like GPs too quick and keen to take his finger off, does he not ask you to put pressure on while he gets plaster? The nurses usually ask me this while they write on the phials, then check the area for bleeding before putting tape over a cotton pad. I’ve alway bruised easy, I say it’s the luck of the draw, whether they manage a small bruise or a bruise that travels half way down the arm 😁 bloods always come back with nothing out of the ordinary. Hope your bloods do too. Did the GP say whether it was unusual or not? Perhaps when you have another blood test mention before they start that you bruise easy then they might take a bit more caution.

I am slow to clot sometimes because I have Immune Thrombocytopenia- low platelets. It’s an autoimmune disorder that often goes along with Lupus. Have you had your platelet counts checked? Do you take supplements? I cannot take Omega 3 supplements, asprin, ibuprofen or turmeric because they thin the blood and cause me to have bruises.

Ask the doctor to check the blood clotting factors.
