Hi. I've been getting a low grade ache across my sternum/breastbone area for a couple of months which seems to radiate from the centre, and often the same sensation on the corresponding area of my back at the same time. The past week it has got more painful and I'm waiting to see GP. In the meantime I wondered if any of you had experienced the same thing at all and what caused it?

Chest/back pain advice please
Could it be your gallbladder ( a stuck gallstone)? if it is that, you will eventually experience a degree of jaundice, your pee will go dark and your stools pale. I have heard people say this pain is the worst they ever experienced, but I had what I would describe as moderate pain in the areas you describe, for several days before going to the hospital. A stuck gallstone is what it turned out to be. Depends how long until your GP appointment is, but if it is a way off, maybe don't just leave this, but go to A and E?
Hi magicpink, it’s hard to say what could be the cause, I’ve had 3 similar pains. The first one was slightly below the breastbone radiating to the back and then shoulder which was pancreatic (had gallstones n gall bladder removed) 2 one was pain in ribs/breastbone which again led to excruciating pain in back between shoulder blades, this was muscle tone and bad posture, fixed by physio/certain exercises. 3 is pain in chest which also is in back but more to the side, this is apparently lung infection. I’ve had one X-ray and another due tomorrow (6weeks later) to see if cleared. I’ve also in the past been sent to a&e as gp over the phone thought it might be heart related.
So really, it could be anything causing it and the gp is the place to go or if it’s really uncomfortable go to walk in centre/a&e or phone 111( who will probably send you to hospital if you say chest pain) Hope you get it sorted, don’t leave it too long before seeking professional help.
So sorry you are having pain in your STERNUM AREA -
I started having that SIMILAR PAIN & finally read enough that I thought it was something called “Costochondritis” because nothing else was PAIN along the STERNUM THAT lasted for me about 2-3 weeks.
I finally had an opportunity to discuss it with my RHEUMATOLOGIST and she agreed. It definitely wasn’t HEART RELATED or pleurisy (I have had that too), and if it is the same for you- it’s really an inflammation and associated with osteoarthritis, RA, etc.
READ the description of SYMPTOMS , TREATMENT, etc below to see if it could be your issue & DISCUSS possibility w/your DOCTOR.
Anti-Inflamatories are the only Medicines prescribed to calm down the INFLAMMATION.

I can relate to that....I use fenbid gel .....cant wait to take my underwear off for relief....when it is really bad I take either paracetemol or a anti inflamatory ...seems to help eventually ...but it can last a day or so ......and takes my appetite away....one way to diet !!!!!!!!
Good luck
