Been for MRI this morning fiasco

Been for MRI private one and was told they have had MRI from nhs also. Nhs said they where not sending me till I got another set of foot orthose to try.Meanwhile my knee twists and the ligaments in my ankle on inside and top feel like rubbish ligaments.

Anyone get this with lupus ankle and knee playing up with ligaments? Still finding it hard to walk on. Because I'm going over to the better leg

yes, I get it 😬😬😬

But I have EDS not lupus. Had a partial knee replacement over a year ago, which wasn’t a complete success. The other knee is joining the fun now!

Maybe you should ask to see a surgeon for advice?

I needed halk a knee in 1991 then they did a microfracture on 6 years ago. Now that's gone but I don't understand pain in ankle and bottom of foot.

Yes, the pain seems to move from my hip to knee and down to my ankle making it difficult to pinpoint the problem. Initially I had steroid injections in my hip as the Drs thought this was the origin of my walking difficulties.

Of course, the way you walk alters to try to protect the most painful bits….putting strain on other areas. Perhaps this is the reason you now have pain in your ankle and foot? I’ve recently been dx’d with plantar fasiculitis, which I think is caused by my altered gait.

I hope you get some help and relief soon.

Unfortunately, ligaments and tendons can take a long time to heal if you stretch them. I did nothing more than pull the muscles/ligaments behind my knee by stretching too far to open a window, and I had terrible pain for 6 months. Even ligaments that don't require surgery can take a long time to heal, especially if you're older. They just by nature don't have a good blood supply. And the extra inflammation we get everywhere from lupus doesn't help!

The problem is that joints are complex, and if you pull or injure a ligament, tendon or muscle, it can pull the joint out of alignment. Then your other muscles start to cramp up around it. I had roving pain where it started at the back of my knee and that was painful for a while. Then it moved to the front. Then the side.

The problem is inflammation, and when one muscle gets overstressed because the joint is being pulled out of alignment, the others can start to cramp and put the joint out of alignment in a different direction and muscles just spasm until they can't anymore and another muscle takes over. I had pain that wandered around up and down my whole leg over time, each place hurting for about a week before it moved on somewhere else!

I tried a lot of things, and found the thing that helped me the most was to use the over the counter joint pain and anti-inflammation cream Aspercreme or Voltaren (at least that's what they're called here in the U.S.). You slather that on your joint so the effect goes straight into the joint and muscles. Do it when you first get up, and it really reduces inflammation and pain and helps everything around the joint heal.

But it does take time for ligaments and tendons to heal. Unfortunately a LOT of time especially if you're older. Wear the orthotics and/or braces/wraps given you by the doctor, because they will help keep the joint in alignment and give it time to heal without stressing your other muscles out.

Yes it does! I slipped on some steps and pulled my knee and it took 6 months to get back to normal, then I re-injured it by overstretching and another six months!

It's maddening, but sometimes you can't get around it and just have to give yourself time to heel and try not to re-aggravate it. I'm very careful now about not overstraining or doing things that overtax my joints, since it takes so long to heal from it if you do strain something. I've learned to bend and pick up things differently in ways that don't overdo it, and if I feel the least twinge, I stop and take some anti inflammatories and rest it so I don't swing into another long-term episode.

Hi Minka, yes I have knee problems, but I’m not sure how much I can help as I don’t know if the cause of my knee pain is ligaments or something else. I had a knee x-ray once which showed a cyst-like something, but MRI came back clear. So who knows. But I have persistent, arthritic-like pain in both knees, which seems to be a typical bilateral lupusy kind of arthritis. Nothing really helps (I’m already on 400mg Plaquenil) but a few years ago I took Turmeric which reduced the pain by about 50%. I’ve been thinking of going back on it again. All the best with it 🌻
