Hi folks, is a sore tongue part of UCTD? I've had sore patches (which grow and change shape, and are smooth in the middle) for some years, more on than off. I've assumed it is geographic tongue but that's supposed to be painless from what I've read. I also have a moderately dry mouth and wondering if the tongue thing may be part of the UCTD.... ? Thanks, and have a lovely weekend. xx

Sore tongue
Hi redmaggie,
I had geographic tongue some years ago but I'm pretty sure I remember it being very sore! It was diagnosed by a doctor so it was definitely geographic tongue. I would go and get it checked out with your GP or maybe a pharmacist might be able to help? I have Lupus but not sure if it was connected, sorry, it was a long time ago!
Best wishes

Sjögren’s syndrome, this happened to me. It was very painful. My doctor gives me a medication called colchicine.
I do have a diagnosis of Sjogrens too (and Relapsing Polychondritis). So many symptoms over the years, I'm losing track!) 😂
hi,
My son gets a patchy tongue and mouth ulcers which are quite painful. I have Lupus so it’s always on my radar. I showed his dentist photos when they were really big patches and she said it wasn’t geographic tongue. He since saw the paediatrician who diagnosed him with Oral Allergy Syndrome. He’s basically reacting to foods he eats that come from a tree. He also developed hayfever around the same time. He now takes daily antihistamines. Still has the painful patchy tongue but not as bad.
Definitely take photos of your tongue and see the dentist about it too.
Oh, poor thing. I hadn't thought of allergy as a possible cause. I guess the mouth is subject to allergy just like any other part. I have tried taking photos but it's not very successful so far!
I have been having similar symptoms, my mouth was vary dry for days then my tongue got very inflamed. It’s a candida overgrowth. My GP gave me Nystatin mouthwash.
its horrible isn't it? I have used nystatin a few times, and it has helped. I thought that the candida and the geographic tongue are separate issues, but I may be completely wrong as it's a bit odd to have both going on. sometimes we never find out the cause of our "weird stuff" x
