Hello, I wonder if anybody out there may have experienced tongue issue. Some small thin cracks appeared on the lower part of my tongue about five years ago and I have not had pain. But lately I experience pain from acidity when eating fruit.
Is this part of Sjogrens? Is there any remedy? I would be grateful for any information.

I was diagnosed with Geographic Tongue by an Oral Medicine Consultant .
I had to stop eating fruit in its raw state as my skin would shred and peel, and my tongue would swell and gums puff up.
I was prescribed various medications to try and alleviate the problem. Flixonase steroid nasules used as a mouth rinse being one of them. I am still unable to eat raw fruit. Citrus fruits are a definite no no.
I have been under a doctor in Oral Health at the Eastman's Hospital in London. I actually did point out the cracks and the discoloured spots a few months ago. He said that was fine and nothing to worry about. That was when I didn't have pain on my tongue but I was referred to him by my dentist because my inside mouth skin was peeling after brushing teeth. I turned out I was allergic to SLS in toothpaste. Changing toothpaste has stopped that. But reading your response makes me think it must be all part of the same thing. Recently I have had cold and have used albas oil a lot to clear my blocked nose and somehow ever since I have experience this. Thanks for letting me know. I will contact the oral health dept.
It is difficult to pinpoint exactly what is causing the pain and other issues at times. I used a saline nasal spray with aloe vera for congestion (another delight) only to have my tongue swell and feel very sore. I was informed that I have a somewhat ‘sensitive’ response in my oral cavity. I believe it is a whole body response tbh.
It is very unpleasant - and, at times, a worry knowing the least problematic foods to eat or oral preparations to use.
I do take Fexofenadine antihistamines to help with any reactions I have . They do help for the most.
Hoping you have some success at your next oral health appointment!
Thank you very much for your kind advice. Interesting to read that your tongue reacted after a use of nasal spray. So perhaps I wasn't so far off with my guessing of Olbas oil playing a part. Having read the responses, I have contacted my oral health dept this morning and got an appointment for mid December. I am now trying to minimise the pain with mild food. Even a bit of salt from lunch brings pain. Perhaps I will see if oat milk and raw honey may lessen the pain. I feel as though my whole system is slowly but gradually falling apart and it seems more so since having more antibody treatment (currently on Belimumab) but my Vasculitis/Lupus doctor keeps saying not so. Having multiple conditions brings such challenges and yet doctors seem to go by blood test results mainly. Thank you once again!
