An indicator in the blood could guide lupus treatment

A clinical trial (called “BEAT-Lupus”) has found that using a combination of two biologic treatments, rituximab and belimumab, may be more effective than using rituximab alone in patients who have not responded well to other treatment. They also found that people with a particular indicator in their blood may respond better to this combined treatment.

You can read more about the trial and what they found in our article here: lupusuk.org.uk/an-indicator...

Hi Debbie,

Rituximab was discussed as an option for me today with my Lupus Nurse who is also my husband’s Biologics/Rheumatology Nurse.

I have SLE (Lupus) & he has RA.

He’s had excellent results with Rituximab IV infusions which he commenced May 2022 & is having 2 more in a few weeks time, He tried various DMARDS prior to this plus the Biologic Therapy, Adalimumab which he injected subcutaneously himself. However it wasn’t very effective for him.

Rituximab has changed his life 🙂

Thanks for the link ……
