Last year I developed late-onset ulcerative colitis and my colon ruptured and was removed, then I got sepsis which went into my eyes and has been caused macular problems, so I had to go off plaquinel. Luckily the eye injections I received have stabilized my problem so I should not have further vision loss. Has anyone else had to give up plaquinel? Any thoughts or shared experiences would be most welcome.
I have missed my friends here while being away. I hope you are all doing all right.
Best wishes, Paloma

Oh gosh you have really been through it haven’t you. I’m sorry I don’t have any experience in this area so I can’t share any feedback but did the medication cause your issue in the first place?
Thanks for your kind thoughts. No, the plaquenil was not at all related to my problems. Because my eyes are now very vulnerable due to the sepsis-related infection my rheumatologist asked me to stop using it.
Hi Paloma, I am so sorry for your terrible ordeal. Such a serious and invasive surgery and then the eye issues too bless you. I developed macular odema after a Rheumatologist upped my dose of Hydroxychloroquine to 600 mg. Fortunately after two years this has completely gone and I have now re started on a 200 mg dose.
I sincerely hope that you are now starting to feel so much better xx
4 people I know have had to stop plaquenil & they became even more DILIGENT at listening to their bodies symptoms- especially new ones.
