Skin problems: Has anyone a solution very tender... - LUPUS UK
Skin problems
Mycophenolate impairs wound healing.when i first went on it every skin break went septic....even a paper cut I felt held together by plasters. I just had to keep plasters on anything until it had completely healed.it did eventually improve.i fell recently grazing my ankle in the process.within 48hrs 111 sent me to A&E .....it had ulcerated. it's taken 3 weeks of inadine and askina dressings and antibiotic cover to heal.when the dressings the hospital gave me ( 3 days worth) ran out it degraded again and I had to contact my gp.its still tender and fragile.ive never had wound healing issues before.. kind regards SML x
Many thanks for your reply…WHY DONT THEY TELL US THAT,Provence lady
Thats too easy lol. The best thing to do is to try not get breaks in the first place which I know sounds a stupid thing to say.frequent sore throats that come to nothing is another I get.ive been on mmf now for 3 years .I hope it works for you xx
Many thanks for your help….haven’t intentionally made the slim break but so easy …… cracks appear from nowhere….think my skin is as thin as tissue paper…..due, no doubt, the steroids which have been on since March….60mg……now down to 15mg!!
I wash my hands frequently with soap and water! So that any cuts I have never get infected by skin surface bacteria.
Keep my nails very short by emery board filing so that no dirt collects under the nails. So far, so good.
I’m on 4 x500mg tabs MMF/day for DLE, SLE, lupus nephritis and 75 micrograms Levo thyroxine for primary hypothyroidism. Stopped HCQ three months ago due to retinopathy!
For my frequent nasal ulcers (painful), which come and go, I blow my nose often and apply antiseptic and anti-inflammatory cream into my nostrils eg dibrompropamidine, savlon etc.
Many thanks for your response….when were you first diagnosed? Sounds as if you have a lot of complications …..so sorry…as have only been diagnosed six months ago am v impatient….have had to abandon my normal life style which is frustrating and de moralising ! This website is a lifeline as get more info here than from the Professor and the clinic nurse!
2014 DLE, 2015 SLE, 2016 lupus nephritis but fingers crossed all is hopefully stable but??🧐Agree!
It’s the constant anxieties, subtleties with lupus skin manifestations that docs don’t get. Eg my finger rashes get very inflamed, red and angry for a couple of days then seem to fade! Do a bit of gardening and then later at night the redness comes back!😩
Thanks, hoping that there will be some improvement soon! As you said the medics don’t get it! Hoping to come of the Mycophenolate and increase the Hydroxychloroquine…not seeing the Prof until mid September…..would so love to go away but not hopeful!
You should have a baseline check for your eyes before taking HCQ! If you’ve got pre-existing retinopathy /maculopathy you should not be taking this drug?! Hence an ophthalmology appt should be done before HCQ is taken. It’s pretty toxic to our eyes. This is often underestimated as I’ve said in another post.
