Any side effect from beetroot juice?

Hello, I have been trying to drink a glass of beetroot juice daily and I get unwell soon after I drink and stay that way all day long. This is very puzzling as I have searched internet and nothing but positive things are listed. My blood pressure is normal so I don't understand why this may be. Anybody had similar experience?

Hope you are staying away from it now that you know you are sensitive to it :). If i take a lot it gives me diarrhea, otherwise can't have it more than tiny bit anyways because it's not fodmap, a diet i need to follow.

I have stopped taking it for now. I wanted to try it daily as a preventive measure against stroke and heart attack. But after a break, I will try a shot glass instead as Sarahalice suggested and see how I feel. Thank you very much for your caring response! X

I would try just drinking less, a shot glass worth a day and see how you feel after a week. If it continues try eating the precooked beetroot instead. It could be you are food sensitive to beets. X

Thank you very much for a good suggestion. I will try. I enjoy adding a few bits to my salad but I wanted to see how good it may do me. 😅

Hi. Beetroot is high in oxalates which can irritate the gut and contribute to other issues. I am ok with small amounts, if cooked (which lowers the oxalate level) but can't eat too often or too much. Try cutting them out for a little while maybe and then starting again with a small amount. This mentions a bit about oxalates drbeckycampbell.com/oxalate... Cheers

Ah, so drinking so much beetroot juice might be an issue when taking some meds like Adcal I assume! x

Yes I would think so, although you could probably do both if you spaced them well apart, assuming no other issue with the beetroot!

Yes, I make sure that my Adcal is taken away from my Hydroxychloroquine etc and I take care not to indulge in spinach etc - I leave a two hour space either side but only know this from reading the blurb. x

A heap of fresh spinach was the 'final straw' in my first big histamine reaction, so I eat watercress instead!

Thank you very much for this information. I should have looked further before. I will stick to a small amount after a break! 😉

Her list has all my favourite food! I am a vegan and eat most of them without any issue. So I think this is most likely the case of a pure and dense ingredient in a large quantity. Clearly I did it too much. 😆
