Blood Pressure tablets.

Can anyone help in regard to blood pressure tablets that do not have much in the way of side-effects.

Currently I am taking Bendroflumethiazide 2.5mg which are fine. Because my blood pressure is now slightly raised I need to take a different tablet. I have tried Amlodipine and Rampril 2.5 mg - both have had unpleasant side-effects.

Thank you.

In my experience of other people's experiences you have probably had the 2 worst!!!! I really don't know why the UK is so fixated on them! I'm on bisoprolol, never had a problem at all. I had no trouble with losartan either.

Hi there, I noticed this post from 3 months ago - may I ask, is Bisoprolol prescribed to you for long-term BP management? I asked my GP about this very drug for managing my high-BP (as another family member told me it works well for them), but was told it's usually only used for post heart-attack.

Rubbish!! Certainly never had a heart attack - just atrial fibrillation. But then - I'm not in the UK and they do seem to have some strange preferences when it comes to BP meds.

I was originally put on an ACE inhibitor but had an allergic reaction (itchy rash +++++++, awful) so the second line approach was low doses of bisoprolol and losartan - low doses cause fewer side effects but 2 together have a better BP reducing effect. Eventually the losartan was stopped and the bisoprolol continued. More recently the bisoprolol was increased a bit because one doctor wanted to stop the antiarrythmic I take. I didn't stop it but I did continue her idea of extra bisoprolol because I have started a biologic drug recently that has a reputation for sending BP up. No sign of that so far.

Even the NHS seems to like it:

nhs.uk/medicines/bisoprolol...

saying "Bisoprolol works as well as other beta blockers for reducing blood pressure, but it's less likely to cause side effects. That's because bisoprolol works mainly on the heart." It also says somewhere it works best used long term,

Wonder what the cost comparison says ...

Hello, I used to take ramipril (no side effects), but now I take Irbesartan and Diltiazem. Again I don’t think I have side effects from either and can’t really remember why I changed from ramipril, but maybe one of those might work for you? Good luck with finding something that helps…

I take bisoprolol and felodipine with no side effects, although the cardiologist is changing the felodipine to ramipril. I'm reluctant to change, but couldn't really argue as it was a telephone appointment. (Incidentally I am so sick of those!)

Please look into Nigella Sativa, Black Seed Oil which has a natural blood pressure lowering effect. In the long run, you might consider trying it if you have side effects from chemical based drugs. It is also known to balance immune system. Worth looking into. Good luck.

I have gone from 4mg to 8mg Candesartan for hypertension. Never had any reaction and I do have reaction to different medications feeling sick or toilet trouble but this brand has never caused me any issues.

I am taking perindopril and atenolol. Cold feet is on the only side effect for atenolol! None for perindopril that I am aware. Reactions to all these meds are very individual!
