Ménière's disease? a truly horrible condition: nhs.uk/conditions/menieres-...

hello retiredwales, so sorry you're suffering...it could be the tinnitus is more inflammation?....steroids might help (I've an ENT letter saying 40mg/day for a week if I have sudden hearing loss...which I had once, due to ?lupus)....definitely see ENT/rheumatology as swift treatment could prevent hearing loss in your other ear? xxx

It might be worth checking with GP, could be just a simple slow build up of wax? but there are all sorts of reasons for tinnitus. I’ve never had any ear problems apart from they get itchy occasionally, but have started to develop a buzzing in my ear. Can’t decide if it’s using headphones causing it or I put olive oil in once a month which helps the itching but could also be causing the buzzing 🤷‍♀️ It isn’t bad enough yet for me to seek GP advice but have wondered if maybe a hearing test is the way to go.

Forum friends have explained to me, I feel daft. It does sound an awful condition and I hope you find help soon 😀

There are lots of reasons for tinnitus but you do need to see the Dr especially as you have heaviness in the ear too. Ask to be referred to Audiology or in some places you can self refer. You can get maskers or a white noise machine that will help mask tinnitus or if you’re very good you can learn to suppress it yourself but that’s very difficult! try not to listen to it try to have some thing like the radio or television low in the background to distract you from it and put a nature sounds album on your phone to listen to fall asleep to, I find the sea is great personally but you could use bird song or forest or anything that makes you relax. Hope this helps

Hi, I lost my hearing in my right ear as the result of a stroke at the start of my slow road to Lupus diagnosis and have had tinnitus since then. There is no cure but there are ways of dealing with it . I have got used to it and hardly notice it, if its bad I put music on as an alternative sound which works usually, I do not use head phones. White noise does not work for me. But as I said I no longer notice it unless the pitch heightens sometimes, its great how we learn to tolerate and adapt. But get a check up with your GP or Otologist. Hope your balance is ok..I have not adapted to that yet.
