arm protection when cooking

I have noticed in the last few months that when I cook my arms are getting scalded from the steam. I bought some long oven mitts to cover my arms but find I can't wear them for stirring/scooping as they are too stiff. I need arm protectors without gloves. wondering if lupus has made my arms more sensitive to the heat. thanks.

I cannot find the post on our forum about such things for gardening - shame as they had experiences as well.
