I was diagnosed with lupus about 3.5 years ago, after suffering for 6 years prior. My family dr was treating me for fibromyalgia with little relief, and I asked to be sent to a rheumatologist. The rheumatologist did a bunch of tests and found my ANA was positive, along with a positive anti chromatin and anti histones. I also had swelling of the synovial fluid in my wrists. I’m being treated with plaquenil and imuran and have had much improvement, although my white blood cells have started showing up low consistently along with low protein in my urine. I am happy with my treatment plan, knowing many autoimmune diseases are treated the same. I have found some dr’s question whether I have lupus based on positive anti chromatin and anti histones, but when I read up on what would cause those results to be positive, lupus is the only thing that comes up. I’m wondering if anyone else has been diagnosed with lupus based on the same bloodwork results?

Positive anti chromatin and anti histones
Hi, yes I have. I had positive ANA and positive Anti Chromatin. Along with other symptoms I was diagnosed with mild lupus in 2016. Only on Hydroxychloroquine plus meds for other stuff. I also have Hashimotos, low iron, vit D blah blah. I’m 44. Think you’re a similar age with thyroid problems too? Anti Chromatin seems to only be mentioned with Lupus? Just recovering from Covid via the kids!
Stay well L 🙂
Thank for your reply! I find that very interesting.....mild lupus was the diagnosis I received as well, and yes, I’m 45 and have Hashimotos as well. When I google positive anti chromatin and anti histones all the hits I get talk about that being a diagnosing factor for lupus, when other tests come back negative. I think it’s a newer diagnosing factor and am not sure if it accepted everywhere yet. It’s nice to know of someone else with the same results and diagnosis.
