Anyone been advised to miss Methotrexate round about covid vaccine appointment? Due injection tonight and jab Saturday.

I've just been given a Covid vaccine appointment for Saturday, and my Methotrexate injection is due tonight. Do I miss the injection this week (or next) in hope of a better immune response to vaccine? There was some discussion on here a little while ago and I can't find it now. My hands and feet are painful atm and prednisolone slightly higher than usual at 8.5mg so I'm inclined to have the Methotrexate. Thanks for your thoughts if anyone has been advised one way or another by a rheumatologist.

Hello - That’s great news! Time to contact your rheumatologist’s dept (or other clinician) with a call and email entitled “urgent - please reply by xxx”” and ask them I’d say. Hope all goes well x

I’m about to start on methotrexate bit before I do my Rheumy has said to get the vaccine first and to leave two weeks before starting it , soo sounds like similar guidance.

Jaybz that’s good that you have had clear guidance. Hope you get the vaccine soon.

Hi Cathyan 🤗Yes I remember reading that one of the earlier posts one of the ladies had taken MTX on the same day as having her vaccine.

All of the guidance from Paul has said that we should still keep taking our meds. I'm on methotrexate too n I don't plan to stop it when I'm invited for the jab!!

Having said all this I've just realised that you've probably already taken it anyway 😹

Good luck on Saturday 🌈😽😽xx

Thanks Krazykat26, that's really helpful. Yes I did the injection but I value the advice as was wondering about next week's dose as well. Sounds like I should continue my doses as normal, especially if fighting off a flare.

Hi Cathyan,I'm not on prednisolone at the moment and do not take methotrexate although constant issues with my health the yo-yo effect you never know what day your getting. I would only advise that you speak to your GP and the vaccine is important, I had the Pfizer and no side effects. I had to have a cortisone injection less than a week after and I'm still okay. Good luck and stay well.

Thanks yvette. Glad to hear you've been okay. I certainly want the vaccine later today, I just want to get the best immune response and worry that the methotrexate inhibits that slightly. I have a telephone rheumatology appointment in 4 weeks so I will ask the question with regards to my 2nd dose, but continue my Methotrexate for the time being as I'm fighting a flare and need it.
