Hair Loss

Having lost my hair once to methotrexate and regained it following change of dosage I’m now losing it again due to stress (or call it Covid-19!)

It’s now really thinned and I just wondered if there’s a point when the shedding stops in anyone’s experience? Friends keep telling me to get my hair cut to make me feel better - and even to add a colour but I figure there’s no point as it will only be dropping out soon!

Any thoughts or experience of thinning would be appreciated.

Thanks

Don't know but im curious at what dosage did you lose hair and at what dosage did you regain? Also look for all possible reasons for hair loss, not only stress. Maybe you are missing something. Are you taking folic acid w method?

I was taking 15mg methotrexate per week/folic acid x1 a week. Rheumatologist changed dosage to 10mg methotrexate/folic acid x6 times a week. Hair grew back.

I had some significant diffuse loss on my temple when taking MTX, the hair became very brittle and was breaking easily rather than falling out from the root. I was in constant flares at the time. I read that sometimes the body is so tired fighting inflammation that it just stops producing hair. I had to stop MTX and now on HDY and Pred, the hair in this area really hasn't grown back significantly but it hasn't progressed. So although I blammed MTX at the start, perhaps, it wasn't to blame but a symptom of a developing AI disease.

Whilst a new hair cut might be nice I might refrain from any harsh dyes. x

Hi mine has never really grown back😞 and its really thin but only atbthe top and front where it is really noticanlr do I have to wear wigs. I've tried everything all the oils tabs creams you name it. My hair usedtivr my crowning glory and the rest of my hair is really long and thick Nd it's really upsetting. Only only on 10mg of methotrexate not sure if a higher dose would help. Need to take. Was looking back at pics of me taken 4 years ago and I had all my hair.😞 I feel ur pain I'm on the same boat would love to hear from an expert how to make my hair frow back and stay because as you say it grows a bit then we have a flare and it goes,😕

I have had this on and off problem for 5 years - I rub rosemary oil mixed with coconut oil into my scalp before I then apply shampoo straight (after before the water). It has really eased my scalp itching and my hair does feel better. I read about this on this website. Good luck

Has anyone tried high strength (5000) biotin for hair loss? I’ve recently come off methotrexate due to liver issues but still on folic acid so didn’t want to ‘over do it’ .
