Oh yes the joy of being in the Shielding group and having to have the flu vaccine outside, well at least it wasn't raining as well as cold.
So now back home frozen to the bone and trying to get warm again.
Anyone have any idea why this year's vaccine and last year's is so bruising? I had to have a little chuckle though as this time I actually bled much to the suprise of the doctor giving the jab 😂. I told him not to worry about it as I can be a little bleeder, don't think he got it. 🤔😂🤣😂🤣🤣.
Hopefully I won't have the same reaction to it like last year's.

Just had the flu conversation with hubby, he says don’t think I’ll have it this year...mmm yes I think so, at least if you do get flu will be a milder version of it,if you have the vaccination(I hope)
So he’s now made his appointment.

Good on you for getting him to have the jab if he's ever had a bad dose of flu in the past I would have reminded him of it 😂.
Still trying to get warm the heating is on, changed into fluffy PJs, two pairs of socks because when I the feet get cold they hurt, dressing gown on and climbed into the bed. Still cold so if I don't warm up soon maybe a shower as well as that can make me warmer ☺️.
I wish I’d been offered flu jab. I’ve been shielding, on Mycophenolate and steroids. But my GP practice refuses to speak to patients about the flu jab and says all eligible will get a letter from our Scottish health board to say when we should come to a drive in centre for one.
As I’m about to go away for work I tried to book at Boots but all branches either booked up or not offering this Service. I’ve tried the phone and text service but lines are busy or no reply.
The local pharmacist mentioned that they are doing over 65s first, then over 50s and children, then finally those with underlying health conditions. If she’s right then I should qualify for over 50s - which is truly daft eh?
Hopefully you will be vaccinated soon it sounds like the Scottish health system is a bit different from England.
I have seen in the news that pharmacy's have been swamped with people wanting the flu vaccine this year and are now struggling to get supplies.
I've had the vaccine for some years due to my health and not my age and come under the English at risk headings so am called in to the GP surgery every year for the jab.
It was strange though driving into a carpark to be vaccinated but interesting to see, they weren't busy as it was for the high risk/shielding group.
I felt sorry for the staff though as the only shelter from the weather was a garden gazebo and no way of avoiding the wind and they were frozen.
Should be in first group if you had to shield as its over 65 s and those with underlying health conditions which you must have if was sheilding the Scottish government site gives information on eligibility. I will have to go through same but have appointment at surgery this week to get bloods taken going to chance my arm and ask if i can get it while there.
Thanks. I tried that last year when I slipped off the list but got an irate nurse who shouted at me that she could only do one thing at a time as too busy?! She did eventually shove a flu vaccine at me as I was leaving!
I went onto my practice website and it just has all sorts in red about how we must not phone to ask busy receptionists?! Not doing them in our GP practice this year apparently. The receptionists are scary enough at best of times!
They give out a dedicated Healthboard phone number that is constantly engaged, a text with no response and a email address that doesn’t work! I’ve been trying all week and then read on a UK FB page for Myositis that someone else had been told the same thing as me about us coming last in terms of eligible groups. My over 65 for healthy, neighbour got his and a pneumonia jab done in the only Boots he could find in our area so I’ll phone them tomorrow to ask. What a mess?!
It really is a mess, I looked up the walk through clinic in my area and it lists my doctors surgery yet they sent me a text to say that they were not doing flu jag this year bit shambolic. There are drive through locations my local one is next to royal infirmary Edinburgh but lists dates in October yet they are operating the now as lot of reports of long que's on the web.
I am going for ct scan this week my neighbour was going up yesterday will ask her if she got it, if so then will take car otherwise go with asking the nurse when giving bloods luckily they are nice and won't get responce you unfortunately got.
Well to update you - I tried all the Boots chemists in my area and all have run out. So I finally got through after 2 hours - an hour of redialling - to my healthboard’s NHS flu vaccine helpline.
The woman asked how old I was and I gave her my CHI number/ dob and she said letters have only been sent so far to over 65s and children. I explained my situation - immune suppressed, on steroids and inpatient infusions and having to go north to clear a business that’s gone nose dive on Wednesday for 2 weeks. She looked and looked and finally found me a slot tomorrow morning in Scout hall of a small town 30 minutes away! Yay felt like I’d won the lottery - how sad is that?! 🤷🏼♀️😅
Why are they prioritising over 65s over those in shielding group? Really baffled by this policy as it says in Scot.gov website that clinically vulnerable under 65s are also included in priority group??? What a mess as you say. Got an MRI with contrast this afternoon but relieved at least that I’m I getting flu jab before needing to travel on Wednesday.
No. For those who are at a high risk of developing serious complications if they catch Covid19 it is safer to be vaccinated outside to reduce risk of exposure.
Not just shielding people - it's everyone at our surgery! It's a drive through! My husband bled a bit but he's on blood thinners so no surprise there. As I'm 65 now I get the aTIV which is more help to my weakened (by age) immune system and my arm is a bit sore today, never had that before. Anyway, we're better with it than without it. Stay safe. Hi I’m in Ireland first in the practice was health care workers the over 65 with underlining conditions. They only got 200 doses so they went straight away I got an appointment for 6th October but with being o er 60 and hubby over 65 both of us with underline health conditions I turned to out pharmacy we got two out of the last 3 doses. He also won’t have mone it till next week
