Hidden disabilities sunflower wristband

I received my sunflower lanyard a couple of days ago. It's a bit 'in your face' for me and more likely to draw people closer to read what the card says and ask what lupus is, which is exactly what I don't need at the moment!

So I went on the hidden disabilities website to see what else they have and see that they have a sunflower silicon wristband which is far more discreet. Only problem is it costs a very reasonable £1 but by the time you add tax & postage it ramps up to £4.20! I thought I'd see what else I could find to justify the postage and found a clear wallet for the lupus card (I figured if I have a wallet I could put a list of medication in with the card and keep everything together in my pocket for emergencies) at 50p (they are 99p including postage on ebay) and a Nano Weave textile & surface sanitiser spray, suitable for spraying textile masks while out and about, for £5 (100ml). Added to my basket and the postage went up. Then I started thinking £5 for 100ml, that sounds a bit pricey, so I Googled it and Hidden Disabilities are charging almost double the price you can buy the Nano Weave spray elsewhere.

I had been warned that the sunflower scheme was a bit of a scam because, realistically, nobody knows anything about it - I didn't until Lupus UK advertised it - now I'm wondering if it's true and it's just a money making scheme. I hope not because I think, in principle, it's a good idea. Will be better when everyone knows about it and people can be stopped from abusing it but I do object to paying over the odds for their products. I would have thought something like this should be not for profit.

If Lupus UK are planning on stocking the silicon sunflower wristbands at a reasonable price incl P&P I'd like to buy one, please.

I went on the website a few weeks ago and ordered the face shields. They took ages to arrive - they come in a packet of 3, for £12.99 including postage. They are cheap things and the elastic band around the head is too tight - length more suitable for a child - and the length of Perspex covering the face is too short to be effective I think. I bought them hoping I could eat out wearing one but you can’t get a drink or food up in front of your face. I may extend the elastic and find something more to push the visor further out but the shortness of the Perspex would still be an issue.

I looked on hidden disabilities for the face mask exempt card and wallet.like you say it comes to £4.20 with postage even though the items are only 50p each i think 75p was tax.they came in just an envelope and shouldn't of cost more than a first class stamp as there is no weight to them.id rather the money went to lupus uk.i havent been out and about yet with it on to see what attention the lanyard attracts.its currently in my ppe car kit on the back seat x

I can’t comment on Hidden Disabilities website, I guess there has to be a way to make sales viable. Like National Trust, if you order online extras mount up.

However, the lanyard scheme works. I have had mine for over a year now. I got it free in Sainsbury’s. I wear it shopping and have found it means staff offer help at the checkout and around the store. I have worn it to National

Trust houses and been told accessible routes. I wore it to a garage as I needed my tires pumped, explained and off they went and did lots of other bits for me like my water, oil etc and no charge. I wear it to go on the train and I have been allowed to wave my ticket as getting it through the slot in the gate machines is a challenge. I now have it as my work lanyard so that when I go to meetings etc it is obvious.

It has been fab because I look very healthy and able, but I can’t show my hands don’t work that well. It has been great. I was in Southend a few days ago and saw a teenager wearing one.

I know have the Lupus card one for journeys and events. I have never had anyone approach me wearing the one without a card so I don’t Imagine anyone will approach with the card.

The scheme works.
