Applying for disability badge

Hello all, hope you are doing as well as can be expected.

I just wondered of anyone had any experience re applying for a blue badge. What is process and procedure.

I have good and bad days so worried if they assess that they will see me on a good day but not my worst. If that makes sense?

Thanks in advance ☺

I have a blue badge and its due for renewal by sept.you apply online or by post.there is a fee of £10 in England, you need a passport photo and document evidence of your disability.you automatically get a badge if you are awarded 8 points or more on the mobility section of your pip assessment there is plenty of information and details on other criteria on the government website gov.uk apply-blue- badge x

I’m on rituximab infusions. That seemed to clinch it. The nurse knew my consultant and that he takes things seriously

I applied with medical evidence and was turned down. Essentially, it was because I said I could walk more than x number of metres. Which I can on a good day. So don’t say that, talk about need to have room to open doors to be able to get out of car easily, flat surface to aid walking and impact blue badge would have.

It’s another case of describe your worst day ever.

yes always impress that the pain is worse after activity of whatever ? for you and say what aids if any you use and dont forget uneven services like pedestrian crossing 's can make you nervous of stumbling .I dont know if saying these things apply to you but it is the little things like this that count i think .Sometimes my back pain starts with the first step out of bed by the time i have got to the bathroom door ( 4yards ) i am doubling over but that is on a bad day a good day i can walk about the house or maybe if i am lucky potter in the garden with my plant pots. Just try and empathize the bad days .good luck and hope your good days are more often

I found the process of applying/receiving a Blue Badge straight forward. I made my application online and had to send the reason why I wanted to apply. Even though I didn’t fit into the usual categories, I had to make a very good case. I had to go to an interview at my local health centre and once I was able to talk about Lupus and how it had affected me I felt the doctor understood. Good luck with your application!

Hello Sallmel,

I would suggest you might keep a diary for short time which details your good and bad days and how your condition affects your mobility. You have to show that your are experiencing 'severe pain and discomfort' when you walk. This could be various symptoms like breathlessness, knee and foot pain plus any other that fit into that catagory.

You can apply online. I got one automatically when I had a brain tumour but just for a year. I then reapplied and had an occupational therapy appointment to assess for it and was turned down . However I then saw the rheumatology OT and she said I should have one and put it in a letter, so I reapplied again and after their OT assessment carried out by a different person, I got it for 3 years. I think it's very subjective !!

I was turned down in spite of all the evidence in front of the guy who interviewed me. I can walk a very short distance with a stick and since Covid require two sticks but unable to contact anyone to help nor has my appeal been addressed. This fiasco cost £20

Hello,

I have just been granted a blue badge in Wales.

If you do a Google search for blue badge, and make sure that you choose the you gov site.

In Wales you can apply online, I did it on my Kindle tablet.

There is no fee in Wales.

You need to write it describing your very worst day.

Get as much evidence as possible, include photos of your repeat prescription s any letters from the hospital or doctor's.

Take your time, you can save your application and go back to it if necessary.

If you do get turned down, don't give up.

Good luck 🙂🌈
