Do you remember when supermarkets looked like this? Oh those were the days! ๐ Hopefully it wonโt be long until we can enjoy those days again. ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐ค๐ค
Down Memory Lane: Do you remember when supermarkets... - LUPUS UK
Down Memory Lane
Wow, Iโm often thinking about all the things we take for granted ๐๐ผ
Ours still do - there was a brief lack of 12-packs in the village but the big Spar always had them and the shelves were full of 4 and 6 packs ...
Lucky you! Keep safe.
Doing my best! Not hard today - was snowing/slushing earlier...
Thatโs miserable. โ๏ธ Sunny but cold here in south of Scotland, so Iโm staying in anyway. I hope you have plenty to keep you occupied. ๐คTake care. ๐ค๐
The forum is a full-time job at present!
It is! More entertaining than TV ๐คฃ
Not only this issue but the prices are astronomical. I needed washing liquid and bleach, rice and chicken for my hubby on top of my usual shop for two of us and our two dogs ยฃ160!,! Shocking.
Thank you you too. Thank God I have my PIP this week. I donโt have to spend it on getting out and about but who would have thought it would be spent on food? A 2 kg chicken ยฃ15.80!, ๐ฑxx
Thatโs crazy pricing.๐ณ Greedy retailer cashing in on peopleโs desperation. ๐ฅดEnjoy the chicken - at that price it should be a beauty! ๐
I am a vegetarian but my hubby and gorgeous cockers will enjoy the chicken I am sure xx
Really? They are upping their prices and taking advantage of everyoneโs plight? Thatโs awful. Since Trump made this an official, national state of emergency, part of the law is โno price gougingโ. Anyone doing so will be fined.
I wish people would just do the right thing of their own accord.
Sadly, no such luck Brook. There are always the selfish, greedy and profiteers in this world.๐ฅด I wish our government had the sense to do what Trump did. ๐๐ป That would have made it fairer for all of us.
Yeah, Iโm not sure which President originally placed it as part of our national security, but Iโm glad Pres. Trump placed the order so people arenโt hurt financially more than they already will be being out of work. I canโt tell you how blessed I feel that my husband not only can continue working, but we also have his monthly retirement as well. And our kids all have jobs they can work from home. But, I feel so sorry for those suffering and I donโt understand anyone who feels to gain at the hands of others. We should all be doing our part to help not hurt.
Our government is going to help people unable to go to their work by paying 80% of their wages and it is helping the self employed too (a little more complicated as they have to work out what their average annual profit is over the last 3 years) but it if it had put in place the law against rocketing prices it would have helped those of us living entirely on pensions. I am one of the unfortunate women who has had 6 years of my pension stolen by the government for being born in the wrong year so have to wait until Iโm 66 (next year) to get my pension. Had it been anyone but the govt Iโd have sued them for breach of contract! Luckily I have my teacherโs pension which is also reduced due to having to stop work due to ill health, but it is better than nothing. We manage fairly well but could have done without food prices suddenly increasing. Pres Trump And our PM could perhaps learn a thing or two from each other.
Iโm so sorry Spotty. Those of us who play by the rules, often miss out.
I'm forgetting what supermarkets look like as scared to even visit one due to the crowds.
Last trip out was to the bank to sort internet banking.
Joy!
I hope your experience at the bank was better than my hubbyโs last week. He left a 2 metre space between him and the person in front of him. A woman brushed past him and then stood between him and the person in front. He explained he was in the queue but practising social distancing. She glared at him and stayed put. He left as he didnโt want to risk picking up anything. Some people!! Keep safe.
Oh yes, I remember it well ๐๐คฃ
Seems like years ago doesnโt it! ๐๐
Ha, ha!! It does.
I hope the return to normality will seem much sooner. ๐๐ป๐๐ป
Definitely hope so. ๐Pray so!
Hello Spotty. I am appalled at the prices Iโm seeing on your post. Just to say supermarkets are returning to normal here and prices are only slightly raised. Mostly by the lack of special offers or BOGOFโs. Itโs probably due to the choice we have here and the competition as all the big supermarkets have a shop within a few miles. But itโs dreadful they are profiting by the situation in some areas
Hi Barbara. I totally agree and think our PM should have made a law against profiteering at a time like this - indeed any time. At least Pres Trump thought of that in advance and has prevented it happening in US. Iโm not sure what the prices are like here now as hubby has been doing all the shopping for the last 3 weeks while Iโve been isolating. His attitude is if we need it we just have to buy it and he doesnโt tell me any prices as he knows it will upset me which he also knows is not good for the SLE. Perhaps he is right. As long as we stay healthy - what price do we put on health? ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Hoping you are keeping well Barbara and have seen the back of that awful rash.๐๐ป๐๐ป Keep safe! ๐ค๐
My rash has not completely gone but I can see great improvements. Iโm stuck in the house too and the weather is still cold so no one sees my body! Not a pretty sight at the best of times. My husband is also doing all the shopping but he gives me the receipt - I used to work for RBS so have always dealt with the finances.
Hope all well with you. Keep safe. Barbara x
Iโm so sorry to hear the rash has not gone yet. โน๏ธ That is such a long time youโve had it lingering on!! I hope and pray it eventually goes before the summer arrives. ๐๐ป
My husband deals with pretty well all the finances since I had a break down almost 20 years ago. But he wonโt let me see any receipts on the grounds that they might have virus germs on them! ๐๐ Whatever.๐
Apart from having a cold virus lingering on, off and on again for the last 6-7 weeks Iโm doing fine thanks Barbara. ๐คJust the usual fatigue on bad days.
Take care. Best wishes. ๐ค๐xx
Hi Spotty, here I am, late, but to reply, that's the supermarket smash picture of the month. It should go onto the " National Geographic" cover for photo of the year- of the great TP shortage!, LOL... Our stores look like a war zone, Black Hawk Down, like the movie. People are very kind here, but, the distribution is limited, and sickened. Hubby went out fully covered like for surgery, I should have photoed that one, halloween costume, ha ha. waited in line, social distancing, and store opened at 7am., he went in they took his temperature first, then gave him a carriage, cleaned down, He went to the back of store for meats, and paper goods of any kind, none! Only 10 shoppers in at a time, good practice, but not much supplies. So, the store manager said try again soon, he was so sorry. We cant keep coming back, it is not safe here, and we are high risk, so the good manager took our information, and will call us when shipment comes someday. I thought about so many people who need this type of help, so we are putting up a sign at the postal office, if anyone needs help, we will try..... On the up side of this, the Good Lord has brought us all closer together for the greater good. That is why we love, love is to help others beyond our selves. So I thank you for the funny post, it is a joy to giggle, at what we thought two months ago, would be foolish. Keep those good things coming. All the love, peace, blessings, joy, health, and care to you Spotty, and your loved ones... thestormy sunshine
Thanks so much Stormy for your kind words and for sharing your husbands shopping experience with us.๐๐ป๐๐ป My hubby went out Monday (he goes only once per week) dressed in boiler suit and mask and armed with his medi-wipes and hand sanitizer. He showers and changes his clothes when he returns. The supermarket had the same practices as your store.
That is a lovely and kind thing you are doing in offering help if you can give it to other vulnerable people. ๐๐ป๐๐ป We are very fortunate here that 40 younger fitter members of our village have offered to do shopping or collect prescriptions for those of us who are elderly or vulnerable. However hubby is so independent and in denial of being either elderly or vulnerable (and heโs both๐๐) so heโs determined to carry on doing the weekly shop until he canโt any longer. Yes, good idea to photograph him ready for war with the virus next time he goes out. ๐คฃ๐คฃ. Weโll have to exchange images. ๐ Take care lovely Stormy and stay safe. ๐ค๐๐บ๐ธ A cuddle as always for Storm. ๐ฅฐ๐ค
