Does anyone have palindromic arthritis. My consultant is teetering on that as diagnosis . Just wondering how it affects others and what medication you take?

Thanks in advance

Ive always suspected that i have this but I’ve not been diagnosed. My dx is SLE/UCTD.I have blasts of illness, pain, swelling etc which settles only to return and so it goes on. 30 years but no joint erosions. There is a big Palindromic Rheumatism group on FB.

There is a lady on the PMRGCAuk forum on here who has finally found a doctor to agree it is PR and not PMR (polymyalgia rheumatica)!

She had episodes of severe pain and stiffness that lasted a few days and then improved, they were blamed as flares of PMR but they just didn't fit with the way PMR appears for most of us so I and a couple of others had said, no, not PMR, but it does fit palindromic rheumatism. Eventually someone agreed!

She is still on pred but switching to methotrexate in the hope of reducing the flares in number and intensity.

It is thought that PR is a precursor to RA and in some people it can go into remission for years and then reappear as RA with the joint erosion.

I was told by my Rheumy that I have this after a weekend of severe pain in my left knee to the point of not being able to move or even walk. I was not given anything for it and it went away after a few weeks but at the moment my left hip is very painful and when I have been sitting down find it difficult to stand and walk because of the pain but I do not want anymore pills.

I'm very convinced that I've had a single weekend episode of this about 8 months ago. I suddenly could barely walk without terrible pain in right side groin. And I could hardly lift leg to turn in bed. Crying. Crying! Then by Monday it was almost entirely gone......... Anti-inflammatories did help some. Should it return one or more times, I will be looking for someone to validate PR.

SO sorry to hear you are experiencing this! Terrible!
