Cutting work to part time

I have sle which is troubling my kidneys liver joints. I am currently in a flare and just so tired. I work full time and it is now taking it's toll. I want to go part time now and looked on universal credit and it is stone straight over my head. I cannot afford to go part time without any support I live by myself. Any advise would be really helpful xx

Hi Donnygirl

Read all gov sites on benefits . Go to the Cityciens advice . Take that much needed break from work . Catch up on all the sleep you need . Think , consider , make changes . Look after yourself . X

I have just gone part time and it has been brilliant. I have a new lease of life. Not taking myself to the end of my physical resources each week has changed everything. I have applied for PIp on the advice of my doctors, who knows what will happen. I think there are some criteria for tax credits depending on your circumstances. I found Citizens Advice helpful. I also spoke with the disability advisor at the local DWP who was informative not just about benefits but about Access for Work a group that can support you in the work place.

Good luck. It is a hard journey to admit you need to work less but I can now enjoy my job more.

Thank you Hampton. Still a scary thought going part time but it's nice to hear that it has helped you so much. I am already on standard Pip. I really believe that if I was part time I would be feeling a lot better

I fought it for nearly 9 months as it was too big to get my head round. Felt like the beginning of the end. (Love to be dramatic), felt like I was not in control. But, it’s the opposite, more in control at work, in control or managing symptoms better and have the energy to enjoy my job again apart from the bureaucracy. I just took the plunge on finances as could not have carried on as I was.

Hope you can find ways to do it and it as good for you.

Just a quick update to my last post. I have done the usual thing and done eligibility online with a zero help so I have made an appointment with CAB for Monday.

If your wage goes down and you get pip you will be elegible for disability element of working tax credits.

You should ring the tax credits helpline.

This is if you work at least 16 hours per week.

If you do less you should be able to apply for esa to top up your wages.

It is a mind field.

I hope the appointment with cab is helpful .
