poor attendance at work

hi,

I have MCTD with secondary fibromyalgia.

I have had numerous sick absences from my work. I have had to work part time since 2014 due to managing health/conditions and life.

my new work manager has taken me down the attendance to work policy. Currently I am at stage one. I have had one absence off work due to an out break of shingles, third time I have had shingles this year!! My GP signed me off on the first day of my absence. My manager is now taking me to stage two in the attendance policy. They refuse to accept that shingles falls under exceptional circumstances. I was off for 10days. I have had no other sick days.

just wondering if there is any hr employment guru here. Even free HR/employment law advice? I am registered disabled.

You can speak to ACAS and get free employment law advice. Go to ACAS.org.uk/contact. Good luck.

ACAS is an independent public body, it is nothing to do with trade unions.

Hi I'm not a HR expert but this is terrible singles is infectious. I would speak with ACAS. When u have invisible illness it's hard because u may look okay and people just do not get it. Speak with your HR department as well. I don't know about your work place but employers can put in place a health passport for people who have long term illnesses. What about flexible working? Even though you work part time. So sorry you are going through this it must be adding to your stress. I hope you get some support.

Thank you. Really appreciate your reply. I work 4hrs 48 five days a week. I have flexible working hrs. It’s just my flare ups that are causing a rise in my sick days. Kidney infection, gastric bleeds, chest infections, shingles… uuurgh! Just can’t get my immune system to behave!

Definitely speak to ACAS, they can support you with matters such as this.

Also if you are registered as disabled, you will be protected under the Equality Act from workplace discrimination. They have to provide reasonable adjustments. It’s a little more detailed than that but ACAS will be able to advise accordingly.

Check that site out too.

Good luck!
