Hi, this is the first time I've written a post, but have been following for a while. I'm on Hydroxychloroquine and yesterday started Methotrexate. My bottom lip has swollen up, I was wondering if this is ok or should I contact someone. I don't feel good today, but understand you can feel this way at first.
Methotrexate : Hi, this is the first time I've... - LUPUS UK
Methotrexate
Any swelling of the mouth or lips CAN be a sign of an allergic reaction to anything so I would be inclined to call your doctor and ask advice before taking another dose next week. And if it gets worse now then definitely seek medical advice quickly - calling the emergency services if necessary.
It probably isn't anything - but far better to be safe than sorry and you are obviously concerned about it or you wouldn't have posted.
I did that and was told it was allergic reaction and was taken off straight away. Go to your dr or speak to rheumatologist nurse ASAP.
The combination of those two horrible drugs gave me vertigo, severe eye pain, and blood clots in my legs. I am on 10-20mg of prednisone a day. The prednisone seems to be the only drug that helps. I may research other meds. Keep us posted.
Hi, update on the Methotrexate. My specialist nurse said it was unlikely a reaction to it as my raised bloods were raised before I took it. My doctor said it certainly sounded like an allergic reaction, but the only way I would definitely know is if I took another dose. Sure enough it happened again. I won't be taking any more!!! My doctor said that he didn't think my raised autoimmune symptoms would be because of the Methotrexate as it is supposed to suppress it. My thoughts are that because of the allergic reaction, my immune system has gone into crazy overdrive and that's why I'm feeling so bad. He said that was a good point, but couldn't answer it. I still feel awful, and symptoms that had eased for many months are now all back.
