Goose bumps????

My SLE has been a monster to me lately, but I seem to have yet another newer symptom. After I eat a meal not a snack, I get cold, I mean even when it is 80+ degrees. With that comes goose bumps down my arms. I understand the bodies mechanism of digestion, but this phenomenon of cold and bumps seems weird. Does anyone else have this happen to them? Should I add this to my list of symptoms for my next Dr visit? Any advice? Thank you all, thestorm

Hello. This has also started to happen to me recently. Only after dinner too. I often get so cold and weak that I have to lie on the sofa shivering, wrapped in a blanket for about half an hour just after eating and then I'm fine again. It's so weird. Have no idea why it happens - I read something about blood pressure dropping after eating but I'm afraid I can't give any more help but can really sympathise with you! I'm feeling rotten at the minute too so just put it down to another one of those weird things. I'd love to hear what your doctor says if you do ask!

Hi, I get this too, almost every evening after eating. Goosebumps in places I didn't know you could get them! Feel chilled to the bone as well.

Sometimes this happens during the day if I just get up from sitting and walk to another room.

Have no idea what cause this but would be very interested to find out xx

Thats me too, thank you for letting me know we are not alone!!!! Neuronerd wrote some great advice below, think it might have something to do with our blood sugar, or BP. It makes sense. I am going to check it out, and read more from my medical book, great book called, The Lupus Encyclopedia. I will let you know what the good Dr says , but not going till August. lol. Stay warm, keep posting. thank you for the support! peace blessings thestorm

The first two things I would check is metabolic syndrome or pre-diabetes and hypothyroidism. Both are quite common with autoimmune. Your body temp decreases somewhat after eating a normal carb meal anyway but if you feel that cold you need your sugar and thyroid checked. Best of luck to you.

So interesting. I am pre-diabetic and trying hard to avoid diabetes. It is not weight related. Why do autoimmune diseases cause metabolic syndrome?

LADA. Some doctors call it Diabetes 1.5.

Thank you so much! I will read it more carefully. But will definitely mention to my endocrinologist. She has me on 30 carbs a meal. Very hard to keep my A1C down, but mostly I am successful. I go to a preventive cardiologist who thinks pre-diabetes does more damage to arteries than full-blown diabetes. This is all very important. Appreciate your bringing this to our attention!

Good luck🍀💛

Thanks. That could be why the endocrinologist has me on more drastic carb control.

Thanks so much, that's so useful. I think it may well be thyroid related low blood pressure with me but as those blood test results still say I'm in the UK & Ireland "normal" range of TSH/T4 I'm getting no help from the doctor. My son has T1 diabetes, so we all check ourselves regularly but I'll check my BG next time it happens! Will be very interesting to see.

I’d suggest that with an AI thyroid numbers are different. Hmmm.....I’ll try to explain. My hazy brain! Something that is normal for someone without an AI is not normal for us. There should be a TSH, free T3, free T4, TSI. If you’re within normal limits it needs to be done during a flare up.

Thank you Neuronerd, great information, I never thought of blood sugar, and the funny thing is partner has it. So I am going to begin a small science project, and test myself for a week, document the results and see what unfolds here. My last labs in April for a wellness check up came back within normal range, but things with all of us can spin on a dime. Thank you again for the incite. peace blessings, thestorm
