Can employer make you reduce working hours

I work 5 days a week term time only. Recent 1 to 1 with boss they said that they would be sending my to occupational health as they think I would be better reducing my hours due to sick leave. I had two sets of sick leave this year due to catching two different virus back to back. Which many children and staff were catching. Some schools in Portsmouth had to be closed for deep clean. Can my employer do this?

I don’t know The laws but I do know Occupational Health understand the laws and Lupus better than a boss.

I would welcome their involvement, also give your boss the booklet by Lupus UK on employing someone with Lupus. May all work in your favour.

Hi.

The same happened to me. I also work for a sch. Be very careful, I was talked into a new contract where my hrs were reduced and can be changed term to term!! I was FT and now I only work 2 days. You need to also get your union involved to help. The sch will do what's best for the sch and not you. When you are ill, its easier to be talked into things. I didn't get chance to think what impact a new contract would have before being pressured to sign it.

All the best x

I contacted Citizens Advice - really good impartial advice which helped me when I needed it. When you speak to your employers again have someone with you, (or a union rep if you are a member). After your meeting write down what happened, sign and date it. The CA told me to do that and it definitely helped me.Good luck.

Talk to dept for employment re advice working with illness and ACAS as they can know about health issues -a local union rep might not. Also, remind school only you can say what’s best for you. Lupus is recognised as a work place disability and they do not want to discriminate against you. Definitely don’t meet alone.
