I am currently in agoneeeee with pain in my left hip/buttock area and low back. My GP gave me a thorough going over yesterday and between us could find nowhere that made me cry out yet I can’t walk, sleep, move etc etc. Sacroiliitis is a possibility.
She’s given me tramadol in the first instance and is phoning tomorrow - I’m assuming the pain is potentially the result of 6 weeks of coughing but I do have soreness in other joints so a flare isn’t impossible. Has anyone else had Sacroiliitis with their lupus or other AI conditions?
Many thanks for reading x

Hi Fennella , i do know what you are going through ☹️I had sacroiliac pain along with hip bursitis, I could hardly move and couldn’t sleep pain killers didn’t help . I got a guided steroid injection which really helped the sacroiliac pain, it has hardly bothered me since, the bursitis is a different matter as it keeps flaring up . I don’t know what brought it on at the time, it was 3 years ago before I finally got diagnosed with Sjögrens.
I hope you are able to get help as the pain is awfully debilitating , best wishes xx
So, I’m not alone! Yes, you’re right, the pain is awful. The tramadol is making me feel pretty grotty too with very little impact on the pain - it’s certainly not a painkiller that I would reach for another time. My dog took it for a year for a disc issue and I wonder now if it helped him either. . It hasn’t even helped the achey knees and tennis elbow ☹️.
My GP was muttering about amytryptiline (sp), did you try that and, if you did, was it effective?
My worry is that this could go on to become a repeated occurrence if the Lupus is to blame and I need to try to find better analgesia. Currently walking around with a hottie stuffed down my trousers 🤣
Thanks so so much for sharing your experience, it’s really helped xx
Hi. I sympathise, having OA in both hips, collapsed discs in my spine and reoccurring Sacroililitis. I've just had a steroid injection, helped a bit. I had been on a high dose of Tramadol but it stopped being effective, can't take Naproxen due to gastritis and a stomach ulcer, so running out of pain relief options. It's good that your GP is supporting you. X
She’s a very good GP. What do you think causes your sacroiliitis? Is it from the OA? I’ve found tramadol as good as useless - the only impact it has made is by way of side effects. Most bizarre.
Thank you for sharing xx
hi there- my younger sister has this but its related to rheumatoiod arthritis, she has steroid injections evry 4 months for all her pain and is waiting to trial a new anti inflammatory injected med, she too takes tramadol with paracetamol.
Hi. It sounds as though steroid injections are the way to go for persistent sacroiliitis. This is my first time so I shall have to watch and wait to see if it recurs. Thanks for your reply x
Hi. I usually get great relief from codeine and paracetamol high strength but not with this. Nor the nurofen but perhaps indimethacin would be more effective. Tramadol is like taking a placebo! Thanks for your reply xx
Hi, I’ve not had sacroiliitis, but for the last 4 months I’ve had bursitis and tendinitis of the shoulder. Been in a great deal of pain. I saw my rheumy a week ago and he put me on celecoxib. This has definitely helped with the pain, hasn’t gone completely, just enough for me to maybe do some physio. I believe it helps with the inflammation to . Hope the pain goes away soon for you x
Thanks so much for this. I shall google Celecoxib and see if i can ask my GP for it. She’s very keen to help. I cant get over how ineffective Tramadol has been for me - the only thing about it that I’ve noticed has been the side effects!
Hi. I had/have had the same pIn for about a year and a half. My rheumy sent me for physical therapy and it helped immensely. Now when it hurts I do several exercises and the stretching relieves it. I have just recently started with a holistic chiropractor and that has helped to relieve pain, also that in my bad knee, although my adjustment is only lasting a week. You might try some exercises from the internet. Good luck. It can be so painful, I know.
