Posting for Coco! This is me, 18 months ago, coming 3rd at the Archery GB UK Masters. I'm currently unable to compete to the level I did due to joint pain and vision impairment. But I'm not ready to be written off yet.
Today I received my invitation to 2019 UK Masters. I won't enter this year. But I'll be back!

PS Many moons ago 🙄😆 i was in charge of the garden around a historic house near Preston Lancs, which featured a deeply, ancient historic archery field under the care of a v fine deeply, anciently historic archery club...when i started the job, the manager of the historic house warned me NEVER WALK behind the targets when the archery club is here...of course i luppie-mindedly did EXACTLY that: wheeling my barrow to the compost heap on the other side of the archery field, i suddenly realised arrows were whizzing past me and people were shouting...😯😬...i had A LOT of apologising to do...NEVER made that mistake again 🤦🏼♀️...i’d LOVE to see you in action 🤩
I play short mat bowls. I can't play all day competitions without suffering big time. my interest is going as i am not the bowler i used to be. my confidence has gone. my eyesight isn't good either. get a lot of blurred vision, chronic sensitivity to light, noise and smells. My life has been turned upside down. Can't enjoh golf anymore either. no strength, limbs like lead weights. list goes on and on. good for you for staying positive. i have never been a positive person. xx
That is such a shame. I can definitely sympathise with a change in expected performance. I had a lot of fellow competitors asking (and whispering) about what is 'wrong' with me. On the whole, they've been understanding and supportive but I expect there are also those who tell themselves and each other that I'm simply making excuses. That can be hard but I try and rise above it. But make no mistake, I have also broken down in floods of tears.
I've adjusted my expectations and tried to make it more about enjoying taking part and being with friends.
Would indoor bowls remove some of the troublesome stimulations for you?
You can do this. I am cheering you on!!! I have been a runner for 41 years and had to take about a year off ( I did sneak in a short run just so it wouldn’t lap a year and was near medical 🏥). I have a zebra/unicorn disease and am going through the million dollar work up to prove it. But I just got cleared to run and I am slowly working my way back to races. I’ve done it before and I can do it again, as can you! There are lots of naysayers but find your tribe that will support you and find you “why”. Then don’t let anything short of death get in your way!!! I’m counting on you! 😘🍀❤️
