CANT STOP EATING FEELING FAT &...

Hi, I am exactly the same when taking steroids. The weight does come off as you reduce your steroids. I hate them too. I hate what they do to me and my body, you just have to hang in there. I hope it helps to know you can lose the weight as you come off them. Good luck x
Hi naz
I totally relate to the fat and ugly feelings. This disease is very disgusting, particularly at night (if we let it get to us).My doctor reassured me that the increased appetite and face swelling is all down to the steroids and they will go down once we go on lower doses. Hang in there, it will get better or at least we will learn how to deal with it, but we have to try and be kind to ourselves. That is very important. I am sending you hugs and remember, you are not alone xxx
It's horrible, I know how you feel. I've been on Prednisolone since July and I've gained a stone after eating everything in sight. I've found the increased appetite hard to deal with. Don't give yourself a hard time over it. Get plenty of rest and incorporate some exercises to give you a boost of endorphins so you feel better about things. The weight will go in time.
Thank you xxx
You can help both the weight gain and the hunger pangs when on pred by cutting your carbs drastically. And as another added extra it also reduces the risk of developing steroid-induced diabetes. If you want to know the theory/practice I'll explain but you don't need to.
I'm not just saying it - I did it (and still do). I had gained some weight because of being inactive due to my undiagnosed autoimmune illness and then being put on prednisolone. At first I didn't gain a lot with pred, the fat just redistributed to midriff and face. Then I was switched to methyl prednisolone and the weight just piled on. Finally I was switched to prednisone - and I started eating low carb. Over the following 18 months I lost some 35lbs, almost the entire PMR and pred weight gain. I have gone back up a bit over the 4 years since, due to other medication I think (first Pradaxa and then a month on methotrexate which is unusual), but maintaining my weight isn't difficult. Even my doctors admit there is no sign that I am on steroids, I'm just a bit cuddly
This site is an excellent basic guide to how to go low carb. You do have to be careful - fruit may be healthy but it is still carbs and need to be kept in check.
