Hi, not sure if this is even the right place to post, but I’m at my wits end. Basically a month ago I started to feel unwell, not feeling myself. It started with a strange sensation in my nose, couldn’t describe exactly how it felt at the time, as there was never any pain. Eventually decided it felt like sinus pressure. I was feeling nauseous and tired all the time. Went docs, had blood tests that were “all clear”. Diagnosed with supposed Sinus infection. Since then and now mainly the past week I’ve been having shooting leg pains (if I’ve been very active during the day) a dull headache, just constantly feeling unwell.
My question really is has anyone had sinusitis and experienced leg pain? As I’ve been diagnosed with sinusitis, I only have slight nose pressure occasionally, the major symptom I experience is fatigue and now pains in my legs. The tell tale signs of sinusitis such as pain in my sinuses or fever or thick coloured discharge I do not appear to have.
Could it be something other than sinusitis?
Forgive me if this is not the correct place to post
All the best.

Welcome Happythoughts95 this is a very helpful group.
I had sinusitis for many years over 30 years ago, I found it very draining and did have them syringed. I didn’t have any leg pain as such with it. I managed to get rid of the sinusitis by falling half a mile down a ski mountain and sustaining a bad head injury which I fully recovered from, the strange thing is it cleared up the sinusitis.
There are so many ailments out there that overlap with other conditions it could be something else, make sure you drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.
My advice would be to get checked over by your doctor cos there may be something else wrong.
Hi HappyThoughts95! Lovely name! 🤗 Try posting on the vasculitis forum too...inflammation of the sinuses and/or nose can be one of the first signs, though these are very rare illnesses. The ANCA test is part-way to diagnosis of one of these (though if it's negative, it doesn't rule it out).
Try pushing for an ENT referral too, for a CT scan and endoscopy. ENT's tend to be clued up about autoimmune illnesses: normally it would take discharge, blockage, facial pain, loss of smell for a referral...if you have one-sided symptoms that should be an immediate referral.
I have the nose/sinus pressure (and SLE) partly due to inflammatory disease (plus I broke my nose aged 9), and read recently about extremely uncommon causes like rhinoliths !!!
Hi HT......Sinusitis is not normally associated with leg pain .......if you had pressure/pain above your eyes & across your cheek bones it could be associated with your sinuses...but as you say you have no nasal discharge it doesn't sound as if you actually have any sort of long term infection.
One way to ease this is to steam inhale....it could be that you have some sort of pressure in your sinus cavity that is pressing on a nerve & inhaling can relieve any trapped mucus. You can buy capsules in the pharmacy containing something like menthol to pop in the boiling water.......ask the pharmacist for a recommendation.
I have had sinus problems for many years, but they're never associated with leg pains.
You say you get these pains after you have been 'very active' during the day......I think anybody who overdoes things gets twinges in their leg muscles once they relax in the evenings or the next morning.....
So try inhaling 2 or 3 times a day, & if things don't improve after a week or two- see you GP again & ask more about your leg pains........try some stretching exercises before any activity to warm up your muscles so that they don't ache after any extra exertion.
Sinusitis caused by an infection is a seriously debilitating condition, with chronic blinding headaches, often accompanied by earache, nausea & vomitting......which often requires antibiotics if the infection is not knocked on the head by inhaling to release the infected mucus,.....to so do try to get your symptoms sorted out ASAP.
Thanks for your reply, I’ve been given steriod nasal spray for my nose, this has somewhat helped with congestion although I do get pressure that comes and goes.
I don’t have any sinus headaches or ear ache, I’ve certainly had nausea at the beginning but no vomiting.
It appears the only symptom I have is the nose pressure which points to sinusitis.
And with the leg pain when I was working my legs would have normal aches from being on my feet all day whereas now with just typical daily tasks that don’t require walking or standing up for long periods I find shooting pains that aren’t very consistent.
I know it doesn't sound very exciting & you do have to spend 15 minutes about three times a day inhaling hot steam...but the simple truth is ...it works....& may save you a lot of future sinus problems...there is no point starting to depend on steroid sprays if simple inhaling can fix things is there?
I had many sinus surgeries, & now whenever I feel my sinuses are getting congested out comes the steamer......believe me every time you get a sinus infection it's worse than the last time if you don't clear out all the congestion now, & with antibiotics becoming resistant to the bacteria that love invading sinus cavities, it really is worth taking the time now, if you do have infection in your sinuses, to sort it, before you have to have sinus washouts which are not pleasant.
As for the leg pain...what do u do all day that means you don't get to stand up or walk about? Maybe your discomfort is because you need to move about more....it could be cramp?
I'm sure it is not associated with your sinusitis - but I'm not a doctor, so do mention it to your doctor if you are stressed about it,.......but don't be surprised if he dismisses the suggestion it is connected to sinus congestion.
I will certainly try the hot steam, thank you, my doctor did recommend a sterimer nasal wash or something like that from the chemist.
Since I’ve been unwell I haven’t been working so a lot of the time I’ve been not doing an awful lot, the leg pain seemed to come about after I did do quite a bit of walking, but again I’ve walked further before and had aches that are normal so to speak, and the next morning my legs are fine, whereas this is different.
I find it hard to relate it to my sinuses too which is why I’m concerned it could be something else, is fatigue and tiredness associated with sinusitis? As these are the main symptoms along with the now legs pains.
Thanks for the recommendations AgedCrone, will certainly try it.
Do you have something else wrong that you can't take even a short walk each day? Or are you harbouring thoughts you have something you are not voicing? if you are...tell your doctor & get it investigated.
You say your blood tests results ar all OK, so maybe it's time to push through the sinus symptoms?
No matter how bad one feels ..unless every step is agony a daily walk, or some sort of exercise to keep your leg muscles in shape is essential......also if it's not too cold, fresh air helps your sinuses too.
I have a Pilates DVD that is not all strenuous ...in fact I sometimes have a doze lying on the floor supposedly "exercising"......in fact grabbing hold of something to stand up is the most strenuous part! But it keeps this old lady's joint & muscles in a lot better shape that they would be if I didn't keep moving.
Hi HappyThoughts95. Your leg pains are almost certainly nothing to do with your sinusitis. If you’re worried I would most definitely go back to your Gp
Hi hun I totally understand I've been having migraine headaches for a month caused by my sinuses I believe, I've tried a lot of different medications still nothing is helping. I wish you well hun if you find out what works please share.
