Hi can anyone answer me this? I would like to ask why did I increase a dosage of mycept from 1000mg daily to 1500mg . My doctor advised me to take it 500mg 3x a day before meal. Hope I could get answers. Because the medicine is too expensive for me. What is it's importance?

Hi. I have vascultis. my mycophenolate was increase gradually until I was stable. I was on 3000mg daily in the end. It worked well for me and I'm now in remission. Luckily in the UK the medication is much cheaper.

Good luck. Hope it works well for you too.

Hello shaira,

Mycept/Mycophenolate (MMF) is used quite a lot to suppress our autoimmune response. Obviously, I have no idea what your clinical situation is, but as with other drugs, there needs to be a certain concentration in the blood before the drug is really effective. My understanding is that one often starts MMF on a dose of two 500mg tablets per day, but then increases once your body has got used to it. A dose of 2000mg or 3000mg per day is not at all unusual. If it works well, then you can sometimes reduce the amount of steroids you take (that's why it is sometimes called a "steroid sparing" drug)

So the answer to your question is probably that your doctor believes that a dose of at least 1500mg is necessary for you to get the benefit you need.

Hope it works for you x

Obviously, I can't say anything about your individual situation, but this is a short excerpt from the UK guidance on using MMF in lupus nephritis:

"Evidence....suggests that mycophenolate mofetil is as effective as cyclophosphamide at inducing remission in lupus nephritis, but with a lower risk of ovarian failure. For maintenance therapy in lupus nephritis... mycophenolate mofetil was more effective than azathioprine for preventing relapse, with no increase in clinically important adverse events."

Hi Shaira, I take 1500mg daily for Primary Sjögren’s and lung disease. I started with six months cyclophosphamide infusions and the Mycophenolate I take now is maintaining my stability. Best wishes 🌺
