I don’t have a lupus diagnosis but have been getting a lot of symptoms. I get ulcers on my tongue and in my gums however not on the top of my mouth and I read somewhere lupus sores are on the top of the mouth, is this true? Also, how can I identify if I have nasal sores or not?
Thanks

Sorry to read you are experiencing mouth ulcers. They are extremely unpleasant. They can be a symptom of lupus but also trauma from dental procedures, allergy to toothpaste, food allergies/sensitivities and stress.
Have you been to see your GP? He would be able to take a look at them and also check inside inside your nasal passages to determine what might causing your nasal sores.
I get horrendous mouth ulcers and for me they can appear anywhere in the oral cavity, and sometimes last for anything up to three weeks. They vary in size, frequency and pain level. I have just recently finished a course of hydrocortisone Muco -Adhesive Buccal tablets for a rather large crater and swollen tongue. I also experience extremely dry nasal passages that are sore, crusty and sometimes bleed.
Do you have any other symptoms alongside your mouth and nasal ulcerations?
I still do not have a definite diagnosis and continue to have various symptoms that point to some form of autoimmunity. I was referred to rheumatologist/dermatologist/immunologist - but nothing concrete. I am still having further investigations as I continue to have what appear to be ‘flares’. I have been referred to an Oral Consultant for suspected Sjogren’s! I understand that this can also be difficult to diagnose as the symptoms can be similar to many other disorders.
It’s a job!
I do hope you find some answers and your ulcers are not too bothersome!
Hello Alice, I have SLE with 'sicca' symptoms. These are Sjorgrens symptoms without the full blown disease. The worst thing for me is the sore nose, usually on the septum. They are soo sore! The best help is vaseline applied regularly which seems to help clear it up quite quickly. Just one of those things about living with lupus! Heather
Oral (mouth) and nasal (nose) ulcers are one of the most common features of lupus occurring in around 45% of people who have SLE. However as Minnskimoo mentioned, these ulcers can occur due to other reasons i.e. food intolerance or allergy. We published a blog article on coping with oral and nasal ulcers which you may like to read here: lupusuk.org.uk/coping-with-... - You can visit your doctor to identify whether or not you are experiencing nasal ulcers.
There are specific tests and criteria that are needed in order to make a diagnosis of lupus, to find out what they are click here: lupusuk.org.uk/getting-diag...
