Can anyone recommend shoe brands or supports to help reduce leg aches from standing?

Standing, even for a short time, really aches my knees and calves. Does anyone have the same problem or can recommend certain supportive shoes/slippers or standing supports to try?

I sometimes wear flight socks which can enable me to stand a bit longer!

Hi Joanna,

There are lots of reasons to have achy legs & you might explore why, if you haven't already... I had plantar fasciitis, oh so painful. After insoles lots of physio I gave up all my lovely shoes & boots and got insoles & wear either sketchers (very lightweight) and as I stand a lot during the day a good pair of walking shoes... Very unattractive, but its about comfort. I wear Reebok's GTX DMX walking shoes with goretex for all weather & they keep my feet warm 😊... Thinking of investing in a new pair, sometimes they come on sale online as I live no where near shoe stores... Will have to purge the rest of my shoes 😵 😱 I live in hope😄... Time for you to do some shoe shopping, may help.... ML

I have had problems with leg pain after walking longer distances in the city or standing on hard tiles while cooking. I invested in good supportive shoes (which no longer look hideous) by Dansko, Naot, Taos. These are pricey but I find them on sale. Good trainers also help me when I am going casual. For shorter periods in my older shoes, I use a Dr. Schol's support insole from the chemist/ drugstore. All of these helped so much that I seldom have any leg pain at all. Good luck!

This sounds so similar to me-cooking is a problem too for me and queuing etc.. Thank you very much-I don't think I have heard of any of these brands. I also use fallen arch supports but I will look into Dr Scholl too. I had given up, thinking that not even good quality shoes can help the leg pain so I am much more positive! All the best x

Yes it is a problem for me as Lupus has affected my legs and feet big time. I find crocs good and even their wellies in the cold weather because that was making it worse. The may not be to everyone's taste mind but have helped me and I do not care as this Lupus is not a nice thing. Also soft trainers like sketchers and I think wider fitting is a hElphinstone too. Worth having a look at papers too. Hope this helps

If you are looking for something truly fashionable and comfortable try Serafini Manhattan trainers. Handmade in Italy and all lovely soft leather therefore they aren’t that cheap. However I am an avid bargain hunter and found them on yoox.com for over 80% off. They’re the small wedge style and not the higher wedge. Very supportive. They come in different styles- I avoided the fringes ones.

Pretty Ballerinas do lovely shoes which are a good replacement for heels for more special occasions.

Geox are ace too.

I’m also lucky enough to have a therapeutic hot tub (another bargain) and a session every day really helps leg pain too.

Oh and yoga stretches.

And big fluffy socks!

X

All the best x
