After 8 years of pain discomfort confusion and outright feeling sick most of the time I was finally diagnosed with lupus January of last year. I have a wonderful rheumatologist that has given me answers that many others had just said it was in my head or medicated me so heavily that I didn't know my right hand from my left. I am doing much better than I was almost a year ago extremely blessed that I can carry on a full-time job with many responsibilities and go about my everyday life. Not saying that I'm cured or pain-free at any time but it's manageable and I'm able to get through the days. I have this pain in my hips that keep me from going to sleep the that bother me when I lay down or sit down. The pain will also travel down my thighs. My lower back and my hips are very sensitive to touch, touching them pressure leaning on something hard will cause extreme pain. Or I can sit here lay here and do nothing and I still feel that deep throbbing aching sore tenderness pain. It's hard to explain but I'm tired of it so I was wondering who out there can understand what I'm trying to describe have you had any doctors successfully help you if find the right answers to relieve this discomfort? There's many things that I can handle a tolerate but this is something that I feel like I couldn't be with forever in my life. Thanks in advance for any suggestions advice and help that you may be able to provide.

New to Lupus so many questions. Current pain is old news but no new answers. Who else feels this and have you had a doctor help you?
Hi 4Desi,
Welcome to the LUPUS UK HealthUnlocked Community!
We offer a free information pack which contains guides, factsheets, a list of helplines and a list of LUPUS UK contacts who you can chat with over the telephone. These contacts are volunteers who mostly have lupus themselves, they are not medically trained; they are there to offer support and understanding. To download or request a pack, please click here: lupusuk.org.uk/request-info...
Are you able to visit your doctor to review your current pain management system?
We published an article on our blog on ‘pain management’ which I hope you will find helpful: lupusuk.org.uk/pain-managem...
Your willingness to carry on and keep a full time job is admirable! Please keep us updated, wishing you all the best.
Hi desi
So sorry to read of your hip problems and being newly diagnosed with lupus!. A lot to deal with especially keeping a full time job going too so well done for this achievement!.Very hard with an illness like lupus. Glad you have a good Rheumy. Did they start you on treatment?. If so what was it. ?.
I have had different hip problems over the years and need to ask you, can you touch a particular spot on the outside of your thigh and it's really painful?. If so then it could be bursitis which can be treated with ibuprofen gel to start and then if worsens a steroid or local anaesthetic injection that your GP can give.
If you also get pain in your groin then it could be the hip joint and an X-ray of it will determine if it's damaged or not!. If it's not and purely the inflammation from lupus then you can also have XRay guided injections into the hip joint to help the pain and stiffness. I've had all these to good benefit!.
Your lupus treatment could be adjusted to take account of this added hip inflammation so I wonder if your due a Rheumy review soon to see how your getting on?.
Hope this info is helpful and they improve as it can be very painful and restrictive. X
