Med advice, I'm scared.

I've waited four months to see this new rhumetologist and he wants to put me on Lyrica for the pain but I've heard really awful things about it. I'm really scared. I can't go through that process again, I just can't. I'd rather be in pain.

I take lyrica 100mg twice a day . I started on 25mg and increased very slowly. I have not noticed any side effects , i have been taking it for a year now and it has helped my muscle pain . I realise i have been lucky as it does not agree with everyone . I wish you all the best and hope things improve for you 🌸

He wants to start me off at 50 mg and I'm terrified from all these horror stories. What was your pain like before it?

I had terrible muscle pain and couldn't bear to be touched as like an electric shock . The muscle pain is now under control. It may be worth asking if can start on 25 mg if you are very anxious or ask about an alternative treatment. I was desperate at the time and would have tried anything. Best wishes 🌸

Hubby and I are on it (he, 600 mg a day, me 150 mg a day). He has been on it for a few years with no obvious side effects at all.

Me, it's only been a few months, and I have put on a bit of weight, but whether it's due to the Lyrica, ?

My neighbor uses it (75mg) for breakthrough pain only (his, like my hubby, is a spinal pain issue). It knocks him for six, though, makes him all woozy and sleepy for 6-8 hours afterwards.

We have all heard/read/googled nightmares about various things before. But not everyone is the same, and no two people are going to react to a medication in the same way. It may be frightening but I found whenever I would get bogged down reading too much into a symptoms list, I would remind myself the likelihood would be I would feel better. And if I felt worse, then it could be stopped; unlike the current painful hell I was most likely already in.

I wish you courage. Research is one thing; scaring yourself with internet anecdotes is another thing entirely!

Lyrica (pregabalon ) is prescribed for nerve pain and as a anti epileptic you must start of on a very low dose eg 20mg and slowly build up it can have side effects to much to soon made

Me very angry and moody it can also cause weight gain I take 150mg twice daily but could

Probably do with a bit more ,also there are generic versions off pregabalon about that may not agree with you don't agree with me take care

I take Pregabalin /Lyrica 75mg twice daily and it works well to help control my pain in combination with my other drugs.

My husband also takes 150mg twice daily for chronic back pain as was on 250mg twice daily for a while. He has no side effects either.

People are more likely to post about something if it has cause them problems, but lots of people find it helpful. It's your body and your pain, not your doctor's, so only you can decide if you want you give it a try.

The worst that can happen is that it may not agree with you, and make you feel unwell for a few days. No doctor would want you to continue to take a drug that makes you ill.

I hope that you find something that helps, nerve pain is so hard to live with, good luck 🍀

Good morning Tiff

Pregabalin (Lyrica is a brand name) is widely used by people with fibromyalgia, Lupus, chronic pain conditions.

Like all meds, it doesn't suit everyone because we are all individuals.

It can cause very low moods.

I have been taking 150 mg a day split into 2 doses for about a year now, as with all my meds, anything new , I always take a really low dose and increase it slowly. At first it made me really 'silly' for a while after the morning dose so I learned to sleep it off. That has now passed and I have to say that having tried many other similar drugs, Pregabalin suits me the most.

It doesn't affect my Crohns nor my Colitis. It doesn't lower my mood.

It does help with my restless legs and muscle spasms, also since I've been taking it, my temperature control is better and I don't get the awful night sweats that were a feature. It doesn't kill my pain but it takes the sharp edges of it away, means that my other pain meds stand a chance of delivering!

I hope this reassures you to some degree, we are all different so react differently. It takes a bit of trial and error to get the right meds, but you do need to be patient, just taking a medication once and then rejecting it is unrealistic, unless it causes a life threatening reaction then most take a while to settle down.

Good luck and I hope you get some relief soon xxx
