Does anyone experience sore muscles and chills in the sun or artificial light?

Often - if I'm in strong sunlight for any length of time I get a rash/hives on exposed skin and start feeling like I'm getting the flu.

Do you get quite sleepy too? I end up having to come inside and literally comatose on my bed for at least an hour and even then still don't feel right.

Absolutely!!

When I spend a couple of hours in the sun, I have chills, muscle and joint pain and a low grade fever within the next few hours. The symptoms last through the night until the next day. If I get a sunburn, the symptoms can be severe and may last for several days after sun exposure. If I have had a full day in the sun, it may set off a flare.

The symptoms you mention are two of the symptoms I have most often when my lupus is active.

I had a specialist (who was actually looking after my daughter) tell me, after a brief chat, that i had some sort of problem like porphyria (can't remember exact condition) and he said it's a common symptom of lupus, however my GP won't diagnose me with lupus as my blood tests are missing one specific marker although every other marker is positive. And my sister had it as well. But i do have UCTD and fibromyalgia.

Oh yes i do, the sun is shining and it is quite warm outside but for the last four days i have had a thick jumper on and my muscles feel like i have been running on a hamster wheel for too long. I want to get out and work on the garden but at the moment my hot water bottle is my companion whilst i knit inside. I hope your chills go soon.

If I go to the beach and stay in the sun for a few hours I get rash and my legs and arms turn into jello. I can't hardly walk back to the condo. Then I'm totally exhausted and done for the rest of the day. Next day got to use cortisone cream all over very itchy bright red feverish rash. I just go out in late evening and after dark now.

No exactly what you all mean. Spent last week feeling quite ill. I accidentally had to be exposed to the full sun for 8 hours Saturday last. Since then I've had temperatures, flu like symptoms a face that feels I've walked thru a fire had muscle cramps and my hands have swollen with joints in agony

Don't think I'll ever feel the same about sunlight again
