"Frozen shoulder"

Hi everyone. I was just wondering if any of you suffer or have suffered "frozen" shoulder. I woke up last week not able to move my arm. Can't sleep on the affected side. I feel worn out due to no sleep. Will this pain ever ease? Hope you all had a good day 😀

I had frozen shoulder last year. The right arm was not able move much. Pain killer and antiinflamatory medicine were initially taken and then excise was really help to get my right shoulder back to normal. There are several excise programs you can find on the web site.,

From the US also. I had frozen shoulder about 4 years ago. I can not take anti-inflammatory, only Tylenol. I was told there was surgery to manually break up the connective tissue in the shoulder area, but there could be a chance that the arm could be broken during the procedure. Also it could create scar tissue that in turn would create problems in the arm again. The other option was to have aggressive physical therapy which I chose. Over all, it took a full two years before I could say that I had full movement. I did lose muscle strength in the arm because of the period of inactivity. My reach is ever so slightly shortened, but I now have no pain with daily activities. Heat and cold therapy helps also.

Hi nonajackie, I have heard that surgery may not be the best solution. I can't believe it took two years to heal. I am delighted to hear you are doing so well now. That gives me hope. This shoulder that is causing me pain dislocated 7 years ago which I had surgery on so I'm very hesitant of more ops. Shoulder and arm very painful today. Will definitely opt for physical therapy. It's the daily pain I'm finding hard to deal with. Thanks again for your reply. Hope your keeping well 😊

Hi carbar

Sorry to read you have a frozen shoulder. Very painful condition!. With the help of painkillers and anti- inflammatories try gently to move it a little every day. This will help it and given time it should improve!. If it doesn't then a steroid injection into it can help to sort it completely!. Hopefully over time it will improve. Best of luck with it. X

Hi misty14, thank you so much for your reply. Never realised how serious this condition is. Painful everyday. Hoping to get steroid injection Tuesday. Need it at this stage. Can't bare the pain. Trying to keep it moving but it's like a losing battle as the pain takes over. Taking painkillers but don't like using them all the time. Really hope it improves. Thanks again for your advice. Hope all good with you 😊

A complementary technique called Bowen therapy is credited with improving frozen shoulder a lot - I haven't had F/S but it sorted out back problems I and few other friends have had that mainstream medicine just shrugged at.

Hi PMRpro, thanks for that. Never heard of that therapy. Sounds very interesting. Must check it out. Typical, you will never hear these things in mainstream. Thanks again. Hope all good with you 😊

There is one hospital in the north of England who offer it as part of their Pain Clinic options. They did a 2 year trial and found it helped patients whose pain had not been managed by other things and renewed the contract with the physiotherapy clinic.

A mainstream GP with PMR on this forum was scathing about it, "you might as well dance naked under the moon..." The consensus from the patients who have used it was that if dancing under the moon helped them - they'd try it too.

Hi - I have this too and I get Olbas Oil and rub it in circular motions , then take cocodamol at night to get to sleep. Another good gel to help pain is Bio Freeze. I eventually found a really super Chiropracter who uses a large TENS machine which deep massages - do try it - three visits is all it took and then it was working well although never gone. I have it treated every three months to keep pain at bay. Good luck.

Hi cas70, yes I've seen these oils. Will definitely give it a try. Pain is unbearable. Glad to hear you are doing well. I really hope I get my full range of movement back. Thanks again

I hope you do too - I can't move my right arm to do up a bra but that is the only restriction - there are natural remedies - osteo and chiro as well Good luck - pain is exhausting x

I know this was four years ago. I have frozen shoulder now. Any tips or words of advice? Yours better?

I've had "frozen shoulder" in both shoulders but thank fully not at the same time. With the right should I had 2 steroid injections as I can't tolerate anti inflammatories, it took 18months to feel normal again. The left shoulder was worse and after 2 injections didn't help if anything made the pain worse, I was given the chance to have acupuncture alongside physio worked really well I'd recommend this route over being pumped with yet more drugs.

Hi mumager, thank you for your advice. May I ask how long did it take for alternative therapy to work for you and how did you cope with pain till it did. I just can't bare the pain with mine.

I started with a 6 week course and some exercises to do along side the acupuncture I ended up having 10 in total. But after the 3rd one the pain wasn't as intense as it had been and little by little it eased. I understand how your feeling the pain can be unbareable.

Yessss I feel so bad for you I had a frozen shoulder. The treatment is NSAIDS to reduce inflammation and intense physical therapy. It took me a good 8-12 months to get back to normal, I am allergic to NSAIDS though so I had nothing to help with the inflammation. The therapy really did help but the pain can be bad. If therapy doesn't work then they usually do surgery. I wish the best for you and hope you are completely well soon. Xo

Hi nanleigh, than you so much. I am taking painkillers. Helps a bit but I'm due to get steroid injection Tuesday. Try to keep movement going in the arm. Trying to avoid surgery if I can as this shoulder was already operated due to dislocation years ago. I really hope it improves. Thanks again. Hope you are well 😊

I wish you the best! I hope the steroid works for you. I wish my physician had offered that to me but I just suffered for many months. We will think positive that it will take the pain and stiffness away. Xo Nan
