Hi. .I wondered if any other lupies have had problems with the dentists light causing flare of their symptoms
Dentist light: Hi. .I wondered if any other lupies... - LUPUS UK
Dentist light
Yes and you just reminded me that I need to cancel my appointment for Tuesday as not feeling up to it right now!
in my case I'm highly photosensitive - both with the lupus and with solar urticaria - where I'm ridiculously reactive to the full light spectrum so it's not a surprise. The dentist I see is very bright white light which has always caused me a problem but is becoming worse as my reaction gets stronger. My dentist is really good and turns off as many of them as she can and I wear my own dark glasses when I'm in there to try and limit the discomfort. I have to make sure I'm really well covered in my reflective cream and sunscreen though, double up my anti histamines and plan to do nothing the rest of the day when I go as I know I'll feel bad after. My level of reaction is quite unusual though where it sparks off a full blown allergic reaction so I'm not necessarily a good example to judge by!
I'm sensitive to so many different lights including the dentist......it's a mind field. I work with the lights off and a tinted window in my office, but then I have to teach in different rooms throughout University, so exposed randomly most days. It is an issue, but where do you start...... Happy Days
Good luck with the dentist!

I had to take a leaflet into my dentist as they were reluctant to treat me after looking at history and meds list.
Always have a flare after dentist, but she is very good and does whatever I ask to lessen the flare afterwards.
Thank you all so much for replying to me...it's so good to know there are others out there like me!!!
I don't know if it was the light, but after having a root canal I felt sick for about 2 months. I dread going to the dentist now. 😞
What kind of reactions do you all have after the dentist?
Hello.
Just found your post, as trying to find some answers about the dentist and their lights. I posted yesterday about the reaction I had with a filing yesterday.
It's always reassuring to find others who are experiencing the same symptoms and know that you are not crazy. Sometimes I think maybe I shouldn't be linking everything to the lupus - but actually quite a lot of my weird symptoms are lupus related - it's just the doctors and in this case dentists - don't know enough about lupus to confirm it for you. Wheres fellow lupies here can always be relied on to know the answers.
I am wondering if it's not only the lights they shine in your face but maybe the gadget they use to set your filing too? Years ago you used to be told no eating or drinking for so many hours whilst it set but now they use some sort of klght to set it immediately.
