I just got an x ray on my swollen ankle (been painful and swollen for six weeks, agony to walk on) ahead of my first rheum appt Friday for suspected lupus.... turns out it's broken!! I've got a stress fracture! No idea how I've done it I just woke up with it one morning! Is this common in lupus??

I'm not sure. Steroids can cause problems with bones. Stress fracture hmm. Just try and relax a bit. It is best to ask your doctor about stress fracture. I know weak bones are possible in lupus especially after steroid treatment.

Hello lilibetlizi: there can be many causes for these sort of fractures. Your rheumy's job is to help figure out the cause/s of yours. It's great you've got this X-ray report before your first rheumy appt! I hope you'll let us know what your rheumy says about it, and how this appt goes generally

Wishing you every best wish 🍀🍀🍀🍀 coco

So my leg is in a cast and I can't drive for four weeks! They were all very perplexed as to how I've got a stress fracture so I now need an MRI tomorrow. Luckily the MRI is after rheumatology so I'm hoping between the two I will get answers as to why my body is intent on falling apart! I am so used to having consultants look at me like... what on earth?! And assume my past history is normal and then I start talking and they look at me like.... ????

Maybe just one of those things but suggest that your calcium and blood is checked and possibly a DEXA scan (bone density scan) to check for osteopenia (thin bones) .

Take it steady when cast comes off
